Abstract
The antifoaming agent is composed of the components (A) fatty acids, esters or salts thereof, alcohols, phenols, paraffin hydrocarbons or a mixture of such substances, (B) salts or the anhydride of sulphurous acid, and optionally (C) solvent or diluent. The preparation of the agent is carried out by simple mixing of the components. The agent is suitable for foam breaking of any desired aqueous liquids, for example of acidic or alkaline industrial and domestic waste water. When the component (B), in particular the anhydride of sulphurous acid, is added to the component (A) and, optionally, additionally to the component (C), a synergistic antifoaming activity results which greatly exceeds the activity of (A) or (B) alone. Therefore, the concentration applied can be considerably reduced, which has particularly advantageous effects with regard to pollution of waters. When used in wood pulp production, the same wood pulp quality can be achieved with reduced use of chemicals.
