Abstract
A method for stabilizing an organic material subject to oxidative and thermal deterioration, characterized in that it comprises combining said organic material with 0.01 to 5% by weight of mono- and bicyclic phonolic spirophosphonate that has the formula **(See formula)** where, R1 is alkyl with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R2 is tertiary alkyl of 4 to 8 carbon atoms, R3 and R4 independently represent hydrogen or C1-C12-alkyl, or R3 and R4 together represent the group having the formula **(See formula)** R5 and R6 independently represent hydrogen, C 1-8 -alkyl or phenyl, and provided that each R5 is not the same, or R5 and R6 together represent tetramethylene, R7 is lower alkyl with 1 or 4 carbon atoms, and R8 is alkyl with 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl or phenyl substituted by a lower alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
