Procedure for preparing a latex based on a copolymer of a vinyl ester, ethylene and a carboxylic acid α, β-ethylenically established, characterized in that an aqueous dispersion of a mixture of monomers of a) 60 to 90% by weight of an ester vinyl, b) 5 to 25% by weight of ethylene, c) 0.1 to 10% by weight of an α, β-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, with 3 to 5 carbon atoms, d) 0.1 to 10 % by weight of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate and, optionally, a) up to 5% by weight of acrylamide or methacrylamide, is polymerized, under an ethylene pressure of 1 to 100 atmospheres in the presence of radical polymerization initiators and at temperatures of 10 at 90ºC.
