Procedure for continuously forming structural sheets or side-open shapes, comprising a fiber-reinforced resin composite containing particulate, inorganic, non-combustible filler material in excess of 20 the weight of the compound, characterized in that it comprises the steps of: mixing an uncured resin and particulate filler material to provide a viscous but uniformly fluid matrix material; depositing said matrix material on a continuous linear advancing carrier surface to form a matrix layer of uniform thickness on said carrier surfaces; depositing casually oriented loose reinforcing fibers on said matrix layer; covering said matrix and fiber layer with a continuous flexible lid to sandwich said matrix and fibrous material between said layer or cover and said carrier surface; kneading said sandwich material to fill the interstices of said fibers with said matrix material; regulating the viscosity of said matrix with small variable percentages of resin diluent during said mixing step to ensure total wetting of said loose fibers by said resin after said kneading step; raising the temperature of said matrix and walled fibers to eliminate its volatile components; and further raising the temperature of said materials to cure said resin.
