Procedure for producing a liquid algicidal composition, based on a copper (II) complex, comprising at least two OH ⊖ and at least one (C2-C10) alkanolamine ligand coordinated to a Cu2 ⊕ ion; characterized in that it comprises subjecting a C2-C10 alkanolamine to a complexing reaction with a basic copper (II) salt, in a molar ratio of 1.75 to 2.2: 1 respectively and at a pH of at least 8.5 to produce a concentrated solution of copper (II) complex containing from 1 to 11% by weight of elemental copper per unit weight of solution, at a pH of 8.5 to 11 preferably.
