Abstract

A method of making a copper wire or cable provided with a primary insulation based on a composition of matter adapted to be used as a primary insulation between protective filler material or moisture barrier and the electrical copper conductor, comprising mixing: (a) a solid ethylene polymer having a density of about 0.928 to 0.955; b) copper-inactivating amounts of at least one organic compound selected from the group consisting of oxalyl-dihydrazides, alcohol-hydroxy-phenyl-alkanoyl-hydrazines and substituted amido-triazoles; and (c) antioxidant-effective amounts of at least one organic compound other than the copper-inactivating compound and having a molecular weight equal to or greater than 550, and selected from the group consisting of: sulfur-free compounds and contain at least three hindered phenolic hydroxyl groups, and divalent sulfur-containing compounds and at least two hindered phenolic hydroxyl groups and extrude the resulting composition on the copper wire or expand said composition after adding a blowing agent on the substrate of copper wire.
