Abstract
Procedure for the production of 5-alkyl-5-aralkoxy-1,3-dioxanes, which have a 2-substituent in cis relation with respect to the 5-aralkoxy group; characterized in that it comprises epoxidizing the double bond of a 2-substituted-5-alkylidene-1,3-dioxane to form an epoxide in which there is a cis relationship between the epoxy oxygen (on carbon atom 5 of 1,3- dioxane) and the 2-substituent; hydrogenolize said epoxide to form a 2-substituted-5-hydroxy-5-alkyl-1,3-dioxane in which there is a cis relationship between the 5-hydroxy and the 2-substituent; and etherifying said 2-substituted-5-hydroxy-5-alkyl-1,3-dioxane with an aralkyl halide.
