Abstract
A method of decarburizing molten steel, characterized by the steps that consist in measuring the carbon proportion of said steel, calculating the decarburization rate necessary to achieve the decarburization of said steel from said measured proportion of carbon to a desired final proportion of carbon in a predetermined period of time, introduce oxidizing gas in the form of bubbles of controlled size in said steel melt, according to the following equation ** (see formula) ** Where "ox" is the equivalent proportion of oxygen, "cb" is the desired proportion of carbon, "ceq" is the concentration of carbon balance, "T" is the temperature of the melt in degrees rankin, "H" is the height of rise of bubbles in inches, "p" is the pressure of the bubbles in atmospheres and "d" is the average equivalent diameter of the bubbles controlling the size of said oxidizing gas bubbles and the point of introduction thereof into said steel melt according to the above equation to provide the aforementioned necessary decarburization rate.
