Abstract
A process for the production of the di- (alkali metal) salts of α-carboxypenicillins of the general formula: **(See formula)** (where R is a phenyl, substituted phenyl, furyl or thienyl group and M is an alkali metal), the procedure of which is to treat α-carboxypenicillin in the form of free acid (M = hydrogen) with a basic alkali metal salt in a organic solvent not miscible with water, whereby an alkali metal salt is precipitated from penicillin and purify said salt by suspending it again in an organic solvent, at a temperature between 40ºC and the boiling point of the solvent.
