Procedure for the preparation of penicillamine and its homologs by reaction of branched aldehydes in the carbon atom in the alpha position with sulfur and ammonia to form thiazolines- Δ 3, transformation of thiazolines- Δ 3 by anhydrous hydrogen cyanide into thiazolidin- 4-carbonitriles, hydrolysis of nitriles to form thiazolidin-4-carboxylic acid salts and ammonium salts, treatment of the mixture and separation of ammonium salts, and hydrolytic degradation of thiazolidin-4-carboxylic acids, characterized in that, under action of mineral acids, the thiazolidin-4-carbonitriles are first transformed at low temperature into the thiazolidin-4-carboxamide salts, and later they are transformed at high temperature into the thiazolidin-4-carboxylic acid salts.
