Abstract
An internal combustion engine having at least two similar multi-cylinder lines on each of which the cylinder valves are driven by at least one overhead camshaft, the camshafts of the two cylinder lines being dragged in rotation, by means of two toothed belt chain drives and sprockets, for an intermediate shaft arranged between said cylinder lines parallel to them and in turn driven by the engine crankshaft in rotation by a drive device generally reducer, said engine being characterized in that said two transmission devices respectively have two keyed driving sprockets on said intermediate shaft at locations chosen such that the corresponding driven sprockets carried by the camshafts are located between two cams of interest to two successive cylinders of the corresponding cylinder line, allowing this provision to reduce the length of the camshafts and engine heads.
