Abstract

Procedure for the preparation of polyhydroxy compounds in the form of copolymers containing soluble hydroxyl groups based on vinyl compounds and vinyl aromatic compounds in inert solvents in the presence of polymerization initiators, optionally chain interrupting agents, characterized in that these are prepared by heating to from a) 38 to 70% by weight of styrene or alcohol styrene, whose alcohol groups have 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a mixture of said alcohol groups; b) 0 to 25% by weight of acrylic acid esters and/or methacrylic acid esters, which in the saturated alcohol radical contain 1 to 12 carbon atoms; c) 3 to 15% by weight of an alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, and by reaction with esterification with d) 10 to 40% by weight of glycidyl esters of alpha-alcohol-alkanmonmonocarboxylic acids and/or alpha, alpha acids -dialcohilalcanmonocarboxílicos with the following empirical formula: C12-14H22-26O3, the amounts of compounds a) to d) must be completed up to 100% by weight.
