Procedure for the preparation of new benzofuran derivatives, of the general formula I, **(See formula)** in which R1 means hydrogen, a halogen atom up to the atomic number 35, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group with, each time, 2 carbon atoms at most or the nitro group, R2 stands for hydrogen, a halogen atom up to atomic number 35, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group with each having 2 carbon atoms at most, R3 means an alkyl group with 4 carbon atoms at most and R4 and R5 each denote an alkyl group with at most 4 carbon atoms or both together with the adjacent nitrogen atom as -NR4R5, the 1-pyrrolidinyl, piperidinic or morpholinic group, and their addition salts with inorganic and organic acids, characterized in that a compound of the general formula II, **(See formula)** in which R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 have the significance indicated above, it is reduced by a complex hydride or by a hydrazine hydrate in the presence of alkali hydroxides and if desired the obtained benzofuran derivative falling under general formula I is transformed into an addition salt with an inorganic or organic acid.
