Abstract

A rifle grenade comprises an explosive head 2 and a fuze 6 coaxially disposed around a duct 7 through which a bullet 38 from a rifle 5 can pass, the fuze comprising a first member 8 provided with at least one firing-pin 16 and detonator 13, a second member 21 comprising at least one cap holder 26 and percussion cap 24, means (not shown) which, before their removal or ejection, prevent relative rotation of the first and second members, under the action of a spring, from a position in which the percussion cap is out of alignment with the firing-pin and detonator, into a position of alignment, and means 28 which restrain the firing-pin and percussion cap from relative movement, parallel to the duct 7, until the aligned position is attained. Either of the members 8 and 21 is rotatable. The cap holder 26 may be an inertia member which serves to throw the percussion cap against the firing-pin on impact of the grenade, or the firing-pin is arranged to be displaceable. The retaining means 28 comprises a ring, the inner peripheral edge of which engages retaining grooves in the cap holder other than in the position of alignment where the cap holder enters a recess in the edge of the ring. The removable or ejectable means for preventing relative rotation of parts 8 and 21, comprises a plug (not shown) in the duct 7, with spindles extending into the fuze. The plug is ejectable by the bullet 38 or removable by hand if a blank cartridge is to be used. The duct 7 can be obturated by a metal disc (45, Fig. 6, not shown), which can be perforated by a bullet. A supplementary propellant charge (46, Fig. 7, not shown), ignitable by the hot propellant gases issuing from the rifle, may be lodged in the tail of the grenade.
