Abstract
Electrically operated means apply a preselected force to a yam engaging means to oppose its movement from normal position to a stop-motion actuating position and hence allow for adjustment of the tension at which the stop motion is actuated. Yam 18 passes from a yam supply to a knitting machine through the two loops 16 of a yam guide 14 carried on the end of a tape 12 wound on a roller 10 normally held by normal friction &c. and a motor 32 with a stop 20 near its end engaging roller housing 22. Pivoted to housing 22 is a wire 24 normally with one end engaged in loops 16 and the other end 28 out of engagement with contact 30. When the tape is pulled down by excess tension, wire 24 is released and end 28 engages contact 30 to complete a circuit through stop motion 36 to stop the machine, lamp 38 being switched on at the same time. Yarn breakage would also release wire 24. Motor M is a reversible D.C. motor and can move the tape down, e.g. for rethreading and up under manual control or exert a static force thereon which acts with or against the force due to friction &c. The detailed construction of the arrangement is shown in Figs. 3 to 8 (not shown).
