Abstract

An inductively heatable godet has a winding carrier for an induction winding coil 14, the carrier being assembled from radially extending limb-shaped lamellae 15, 16 clamped together by rings 17 and 18 and screws 19, the limb ends of adjacent lamellae being in contact with each other to constitute a continuous contact for the emergence or entry of magnetic lines of force. Projections 20 are provided at the ends of the limbs, offset relative to each other or to those of adjacent lamellae. The intermediate spaces remaining between neighbouring lamellae are filled, at least at the outer periphery, with insulating material. The limbs of the lamellae may be of varying length according to the axially varying internal diameter of the godet shell 1, the windings located between the limbs, where there are at least three (Fig. 3, not shown), having differing numbers of turns and being wound in opposite directions. The inner wall of the godet shell 1 is preferably lined with a conducting material 9. At one or more points on the lamella body a multiplicity of lamellae may be replaced by a wedge-shaped member 24 made of good magnetic conducting material, which member also acts as a tensioning member. The member 24 receives a temperature sensing means, and feed lines for the winding 14 extend through bore 34 in the member.
