Abstract

A cooling device comprising a refrigerant circulation circuit including a compressor, a condenser, an expansion valve and an evaporator, all connected in series in the order mentioned, and with said condenser connected to the compressor discharge launder and said evaporator connected to the suction side thereof, said refrigerant circulation circuit having its liquid refrigerant pipe portions disposed in heat exchange relation with its suction gas pipe portions and control means associated with said expansion valve to supercharge the evaporator with coolant at a predetermined flow rate resulting in the discharge therefrom of a liquid gas refrigerant mixture, said control means comprising a liquid probe disposed in said coolant circulation circuit at a point between said evaporator and said compressor to perceive and liquid content of said liquid gas mixture and to produce an output depending on it, and means responsive to said outlet to cause said expansion valve to vary the flow rate of refrigerant therethrough inversely to the liquid content of said mixture of liquid gas, at least one of said suction gas pipe portions being disposed between said point and the suction side of said compressor.
