Abstract
Yarn guides 1 of a striping unit are selected by turning a lever 4 about a shaft 5 until its end is positioned above a selected yarn guide whereupon a bar 8 is lowered under the influence of a cam 11 to pivot the lever 4 downwardly which in turn projects the yarn guide such that initially its yarn is taken by a draw or hook 14 drawing the yarn within the needle circle to be taken by the needles. Each guide 1 is associated with its own yarn trapping device 16, 17 and severing devices 20, 21 the parts 17 and 21 being fixed and the parts 16, 20 being pivoted about an axis 18, nose portions 101, 102 on the guide 1 engaging the movable trapping blade 16 which is coupled to the cutting blade 20. Consequently after the yarn has been taken by the hook 15 further lowering movement of the guide releases the yarn from its clamp. A pawl 26 holds the guide in position and on the guide being released it returns to its initial position under spring control the nose 102 engages the member 16 pivoting it to cause it to clamp the yarn and the blade 20 to sever it.
