Abstract

A valve for insertion in a liquid or gas pipe comprises a housing 10 having a passage 16 for flow of fluid therethrough, a valve member 12 in the housing movable between operative and inoperative positions, and cylindrical portions terminating in half flanges 18 to support the valve between the ends of pipes to be connected. The half flanges are secured by flexible joint clips 52 having plugs 54 to permit a section of pipe between two valves to be purged during a change over from manufactured to natural gas. The member 12 falls into the closure position after a dowel 48 has been rotated to pass through a diamond shaped aperture 40 and may be forced into fully closed position by a tool screwed into a boss 36 normally closed by a plug 42. Buttons 50 on the member 12 engage tapered channels in one half of the housing to perform a wedging function and ensure good contact with a face 28.
