Abstract

A dry-cleaning apparatus has a horizontal rotatable drum within a tank 11 to which solvent is pumped through a conduit 8, 10 from a compartment 2 in a container 1 to which the solvent returns through another conduit from tank 11 and which contains a cage 17 for filter powder for regenerating a filter 9 in conduit 8, 10, solvent being recovered from articles in the tank 11 after cleaning by passing hot air thereover to a condenser 21 from which the recovered solvent returns to compartment 1. The intake 6 of pump 5 is near the bottom of compartment 2 and away from a pipe 3 connected to the main part of container 1. During drying hot air from conduit 19 passes through tank 11 and thence through conduit 20 to condenser 21 from which it returns past inspection window 24 and water separating device 25 to container 1. When filter 9 is to be completely renewed the fossil meal is broken up and discharged directly to a still 30 and a new filter is built up. After the filter has been re-generated a predetermined number of times the still is operated to recover the solvent which passes through a condenser 29 to join the solvent from condenser 21. In operation, first fossil meal in cage 17 is carried by pump 5 to filter 9 where it is deposited, the solvent continuing through tank 11 and back to compartment 2 into which further solvent is sucked through pipe 3 from container 1. When the solvent returning to compartment 2 equals that being pumped out, no more solvent is sucked from container 1.
