Abstract

A refractory trough 10 of tapered crosssection has a number of outlets 13 in the bottom. Patterns 14 of wax are secured in the holes by pegs 15 of wax or of aluminium, coated with tallow. Shell moulds 17 are formed round the patterns 14 by dipping and dusting, and the wax, tallow and aluminium removed and the moulds fired in a single operation, or the patterns are removed in a water bath, and the moulds fired subsequently. After casting metal in the moulds 17, the moulds and the cast articles are removed from the trough.
