Abstract

In a vehicle steering gear comprising a rack bar provided with a toothed side portion near one end of the bar, the toothed portion being held in mesh with a control pinion 5 by a spring-pressed element 6, the non-toothed end of the rack bar is supported and guided in a rack casing 2 by a floating element 7. As shown in Fig. 2, the floating element 7 comprises a ring 9 supported in the casing 2 by a sealing ring 12 and retained by a clip 13. In a modification, the floating element 7 comprises a spherical element 14, Fig. 3, mounted in a ring 16, preferably of synthetic plastics material, engaged by a clip 13 or by a ring screwed into the casing.
