Abstract

A multiple shuttleless loom with a single dobby shedding both heald frame sets simultaneously has a single drive for two weft inserting mechanism, located between the looms, to simultaneously insert both wefts from supplies at the inner or outer sides of the looms. A continuously rotating shaft 1 operates the weft inserting mechanisms each comprising a crank 4 fixed to the shaft 1, an intermediate gear 5 freely mounted on the crank 4 and a gear 6 freely mounted on the crank 4 and meshing with the gear 5. The gear 5 meshes with a stationary gear 2 so that, as the crank 4 rotates, the final gear 6 is caused to rotate about its own axis and a second crank 7, secured to the gear 6, is caused to give straight line motion to the weft inserter 8. The two cranks 4 are 180 apart so that inserters 8 simultaneously enter and leave the sheds together. The gears 5, 6 are adjustably mounted on the cranks 4 to allow variation of the fabric width. A common drive for the sleys, reeds, warp beams, fabric take-up, &c., may also be provided.
