Abstract

A machine for heat setting hosiery fabrics made from synthetic fibres comprises a hollow cylindrical body 1 divided, by an inner transverse partition 2, into a lower portion 3 which is downwardly closed and entirely hollow and an upper portion 4 which is closed at its upper end and provided with an annular peripheral zone 5 which, by conduits 6, 61 orientated towards the centre, communicates with a vertical central conduit 7 through which extends the motor-driven spindle 8 of an agitatorimpeller 9 suitably mounted to produce circulation of a liquid, e.g. oil, which fills the zone 5 and is heated by electrical resistors 10 mounted in the zone 5. In use. the fabric (not shown) passes over the free ends of parallel guides 41, 41', Fig. 2 (not shown), and is assisted in its movement by pulleys 40 driven by a motor 38. The fabric is spread by diverging end portions 42, 42' of the guides 41, 41'. The fabric passes between rollers 15, 15' and 12. 12' and then between rollers 12. 12' and 16. 16', the roller 12 being driven at an adjustable speed by the motor 38. The fabric next passes in a zig-zag path between a movable inverted U-section annulus 21 and a fixed U-section annulus 19. A cylindrical partition 20 extends upwardly from the base of the annulus 19. The annulus 21 is mounted on supports 22 which are vertically movable by a mechanism 23 to alter the position of the annulus 21 in the annulus 19 to alter the resistance offered by the annuli 19. 21 to the fabric. The fabric then slides on the portion 4 on which it is heat treated and is cooled on the portion 3. On leaving the body 1, the fabric is taken up by rolls 31, 32, 33 and is folded on leaving the latter. The roll 32 is driven by a motor 35 and the rolls 31, 33 are free running. The body 1 depends from a hollow bar 13 and is prevented from lateral oscillation or vibration by small rollers 28 supported on a ring 27 and which bear against the outer face of the body 1.
