Abstract

A dwelling house comprises a framework having rectangular panel-like vertical columns 11 each having one of its vertical edges disposed at a respective corner of the structure, a horizontal floor beam 12 being secured to each column at a position spaced away from both ends of the column and at a height corresponding to an upper floor level so as to project substantially in the plane of the panel forming said column away from the other vertical edge thereof, and being connected to said one vertical edge of the next adjacent column. The columns 11 may be of rectangular openwork formation which may be faced before or after erection with plywood, plastics, pre-cast concrete or the like. The beams 12 may be of Z- section with the lower flange 17 outwardly directed to receive wall panelling, window frames and the like whilst the upper flange 20 is inwardly directed to support prefabricated flooring units 22. Eaves beams 26, which may be similar to the beams 12 are secured to the tops of the columns 11 parallel to the beams 12. A roof of any desired form is provided by prefabricated roofing elements such as 30 supported by the beams 26. Two or more similar structures may be placed side-by-side to form semidetached or terraced houses. The columns 11 and beams 12, 26 may be of metal timber, plastics or concrete.
