Abstract

A trigger mechanism for a firearm comprises a trigger 14 pivoted loosely on a pin 15 and having a lever 10 pivoted thereto, a breech block retaining member 9 loosely pivoted on a pin 16 and a spring-loaded plunger 12 acting between the lever 10 and the member 9. The trigger may be actuated in each of two ways to cause the firearm to fire automatically or single shots. Semi-automatic firing takes place if the trigger is squeezed on the lower arcuate front portion which causes the lever 10 to move ,upwards to pivot the sear 9j downwardly to release the breech-block. The member 9 then moves rearwardly under the action of the spring-loaded plunger clear of the end 10b of the lever 10, slot 9h moving relative to pin 16 so that it can assume a breech-block retaining position even when the trigger remains squeezed. Automatic firing takes place when the trigger is squeezed on the upper arcuate front portion which causes the trigger to first move axially, slot 14 in moving relative to pin 15, and then to pivot the member 9 and release the breech block. Axial movement of the member 9 thereafter under the action of the plunger 12 is not sufficient to move the end 9l clear of the lever end 10l so the member 9 is retained in a position clear of the breech block to permit automatic firing until the trigger is released.
