Abstract
A method for providing, in a controlled manner, better mechanical characteristics to the rayon threads of great tenacity to be used as reinforcements in articles of rubber or plastic material, a process consisting in impregnating the yarn with an aqueous solution of a dialdehyde and in treating the heat the yarn thus prepared, and characterized by the fact that: (a) the yarn is continuously passed through said solution until reaching a degree of absorption of said dialdehyde chosen between 4% and 16% by weight respect to the weight of the dry yarn; (b) the yarn speeds at its entry and exit from the solution are controlled in such a way that the outgoing yarn can have a calculated residual reduction chosen between 2% and 9%; and (c) the tensioned wire is heat treated at the same speed as it exits the solution.
