Closing device for motor vehicle doors, characterized by a mechanism that is interposed between the closing elements of the device and the manually operable opening elements including elements that act on the hitch; a two-part contact coupling that is operated by the opening elements and operates the actuating elements being able to move between a closed position and an open position. A first part of the contactor is mounted on the second part thereof with a relative movement thereof between the first and the second position; flexible elements that force the coupling to go to its closed position and that drive the first part to its first position; and a stop that acts together with the first part when it is in its first position to prevent movement of the coupling as a whole from its closed position to its open position; the coupling is arranged such that the opening operation of the opening element will first move the first part to its second position, in which it is disengaged from the stop, and will subsequently move the coupling as a whole from its closed position to its opening position.
