Abstract

Use of polymers based on crosslinked saccharides as bile acid sequestrants. The present invention describes the use of cross-linked saccharide-based polymers as a medicament, particularly for the treatment of diseases that require sequestering sterols and/or bile acids. Such polymers are obtained from either cyclodextrins and/or polysaccharides, such as starch or dextrin, which are cross-linked with bis vinyl sulfones, producing homo- and hetero-polymeric materials. Therefore, said materials can be used in different diseases such as hyperlipidemia, diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperglycemia and obesity, but it is not limited thereto.
