Description

Herramienta y procedimiento para sellar térmicamente tapas Lidstock a recipientes de plástico.
Campo de la invención
La invención se refiere a herramientas de sellado térmico para sellar tapas lidstock (5) a recipientes de plástico para formar envases sellados, en especial envases desechables para lentes de contacto conocidos como paquetes blíster.
Antecedentes de la invención
Las lentes de contacto de hidrogel blandas han ido aumentando en popularidad desde que se introdujeron por primera vez en la década de 1970. Tales lentes de contacto se empaquetan convencionalmente en el estado hidratado y en una solución de almacenamiento. Muchas lentes de contacto se envasan, junto con la solución acuosa de almacenamiento, en un recipiente tipo blíster desechable (6) normalmente formado a partir de un polímero rígido. Ejemplos de envases tipo blíster se pueden observar en las Patentes de Estados Unidos Nº 4.691.820, 5.524.419; 5.578.331; 5.649.410; 5.722.536 y 6.082.533. La base de un envase tipo blíster puede ser parte del molde de la lente de contacto original o una base moldeada por separado, normalmente formada a partir de un polímero rígido. En los tipos de envases mencionados anteriormente, la base que contiene la lente de contacto y cualquier solución de almacenamiento acuosa, se sella por una tapa lidstock flexible. Normalmente, esta tapa lidstock (5) es una lámina de aluminio que se puede retraer por un usuario para acceder a la lente contenida en la base. Normalmente, esta tapa lidstock se sella al área que rodea la porción de la base que contiene la lente de contacto. Esta área de sellado de la base ha sido típicamente una superficie sustancialmente plana, o una superficie anular plana levantada como se observa, por ejemplo, en la Patente de Estados Unidos Nº 5.722.536.
El documento FR 2687633 describe un recipiente que incluye una cubierta protectora termosellada en un canal periférico del borde externo del recipiente, formando el canal, con la pared del recipiente, un ángulo de menos de 90 grados. Esta disposición hace posible aumentar considerablemente la resistencia del termosellado a la ruptura a través del esfuerzo de las fuerzas de cizalladura generadas por una sobrepresión interna en el recipiente que se originan, por ejemplo, a partir de un tratamiento térmico. Por lo tanto se evita la abertura inesperada del recipiente, lo que haría los contenidos inadecuados para su consumo.
El documento EP 0683110 describe una tapa para un cuerpo del recipiente que tiene una porción de pared lateral en uno de cuyos extremos una porción anular se extiende en un ángulo obtuso hasta la pared lateral para definir la embocadura del recipiente. La tapa tiene un panel central elásticamente deformable y una pestaña anular periférica que se extiende hacia abajo y hacia fuera desde el panel central para definir una superficie de sellado para cooperar con la porción anular del cuerpo. Cuando se adhieren o se unen entre sí, la porción inclinada de la tapa y el cuerpo reciben la tensión, que surge a medida que el procesamiento térmico aumenta el volumen del producto envasado, a medida que se minimiza una carga en la fuerza de desprendimiento por cizalladura.
Sin embargo, se ha descubierto que esta área de sellado, ya sea si surge o no, puede causar problemas durante el proceso de sellado. Si se utiliza un proceso de moldeo para formar el envase tipo blíster (6), por ejemplo, el material puede haber sufrido alguna contracción, lo que resulta en una superficie de sellado algo cóncava o convexa en vez de una superficie plana. Aunque a simple vista, la superficie de sellado puede parecer plana, la curvatura puede ser suficiente para dar como resultado un sellado de mala calidad entre el tapa lidstock (5) y la superficie de sellado del envase.
La herramienta de sellado para sellar la tapa lidstock (5) a la pestaña (4) de un recipiente de plástico tiene por lo general una cara inferior que soporta el recipiente directamente por debajo de la pestaña, y una cara superior que presiona la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la superficie de la pestaña (4) del envase, soportada por la cara inferior que está en contacto con la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) del envase. Por lo general, la cara superior se calienta con el fin de proporcionar un asiento fusionando una capa basal termoplástica de la tapa lidstock
(5) a la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4). Las herramientas de sellado de la técnica anterior tienen en general caras planas, en las que entran en contacto con la tapa lidstock (5) y las superficies inferiores de la pestaña (4) del envase para el sellado.
Un método para mejorar la fiabilidad del sello sería aumentar la presión de sellado o temperatura aplicada por la herramienta. Sin embargo, esto también puede conllevar a una mayor resistencia del sello o soldadura formada, de tal manera que el consumidor puede tener dificultades para eliminar la tapa lidstock (5) del resto del envase al abrir el envase. Esto no es deseable y puede conllevar a derrames de los contenidos del envase.
En consecuencia, es un objeto de la presente invención proporcionar una herramienta de sellado por calor para sellar la tapa lidstock (5) en envases tipo blíster (6) que proporcione una mayor fiabilidad del sello, en tanto mantiene la facilidad de abertura.
Sumario de la invención
Un primer aspecto de la invención proporciona una herramienta de sellado por calor para sellar una tapa lidstock (5) a un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña (4) que tiene una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior en la que la herramienta comprende una primera placa (1) adaptada ponerse en contacto con la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y una segunda placa (3) adaptada para presionar la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), en el que la segunda placa (3) se curva sustancialmente con la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4). Preferiblemente, la primera placa (1) también se curva sustancialmente con la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4). Lo ideal sería que la segunda placa (3) se curve con una curvatura idéntica a la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4) y la primera placa
(1) se curve con una curvatura idéntica a la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).
Al ofrecer la segunda placa (3) con sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado curva de la pestaña (4), cuando la segunda placa (3) entra en contacto con la tapa lidstock (5) para presionar la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), se suministrará un tiempo de contacto y presión de contacto sustancialmente uniformes a través de la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), lo que conlleva a una mayor uniformidad en la fuerza del sello sobre toda la pestaña (4). Esta uniformidad se puede mejorar aún más, proporcionando la primera placa (1) con sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4), de tal manera que las placas se aprietan entre sí intercalando la tapa lidstock (5) y la pestaña (4), se aplica una presión sustancialmente uniforme sobre toda la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4) durante todo el tiempo que transcurre el proceso de sellado.
Descripción de las realizaciones preferidas
Se ha descubierto que el proceso de moldeo, por lo general termoformado, convencionalmente utilizado para formar el recipiente polimérico rígido del envase tipo blíster (6), puede conllevar a la contracción irregular del recipiente después del moldeo, y esto hace que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4) del recipiente adapte una forma cóncava o convexa. Esta curvatura puede no ser fácilmente visible a simple vista, y el radio de curvatura se puede establecer por la medición de la altura de los extremos del envase tipo blíster y una superficie de referencia plana.
Aunque la curvatura puede ser pequeña (es decir, el radio de curvatura es grande), puede ser suficiente para dar lugar a diferencias significativas en la resistencia de sellado sobre la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), si se utilizan placas planas para la herramienta de sellado por calor.
Adecuadamente, en el uso, la primera placa (1) no se calienta y se encuentra a temperatura ambiente, mientras que la segunda placa (3) se calienta a una temperatura adecuada, de tal manera que se forma un cierre hermético por el calor transmitido a través de la tapa lidstock (5) cuando las placas se unen entre sí para intercalar la tapa lidstock (5) y la pestaña (4).
La tapa lidstock (5) es adecuadamente un papel laminado con una capa basal que se funde para formar un sello cuando se calienta en contacto con la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4). Preferiblemente, la capa superior del papel laminado es una superficie sobre la que se puede realizar la impresión. Una capa superior adecuada es una lámina de metal, tal como papel de aluminio.
El contenedor se moldea de forma apropiada a partir de un polímero rígido, por ejemplo, un polímero termoplástico, tal como el polipropileno o poliestireno. El recipiente comprende un pozo (7) para contener el material que se tiene que envasar, tal como una lente de contacto blanda con una solución de hidratación, y tiene una pestaña (4) alrededor del pozo (7) a la que se sella la tapa lidstock (5) para formar el envase sellado. La pestaña (4) puede ser simplemente la superficie superior del propio envase, o puede tener forma de un área elevada que rodea el pozo (7), y que se proporciona en la superficie superior del envase. La superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4) puede ser toda
o parte de la superficie superior de la pestaña (4), dado que la superficie de sellado rodea el pozo (7) de tal manera que cuando se hace un sello, los contenidos del pozo (7) se sellan herméticamente. La naturaleza del proceso de moldeo puede conllevar a que la superficie superior del envase y por lo tanto, la pestaña (4) y la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), tengan una superficie superior cóncava o convexa. Esto puede deberse a la contracción irregular del polímero que forma el recipiente durante el proceso de moldeo para formar el pozo (7).
Cuando el recipiente se inicia como una hoja plana de polímero y luego se moldea simplemente para formar un pozo (7), dejando la superficie restante como la pestaña (4) del pozo (7), la superficie de sellado superior de la pestaña (4) y la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) se dotarán con la misma curvatura, como resultado de las tensiones irregulares establecidas en el proceso de moldeo, pero siendo la superficie la superior cóncava y la superficie inferior convexa, o viceversa.
Otro aspecto de la invención se refiere a un método para proporcionar una herramienta de sellado por calor de acuerdo con el primer aspecto de la invención, que comprende las etapas de preparar un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña (4) con una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior, medir la curvatura de la superficie de sellado superior y preparar una segunda placa (3) para la herramienta de sellado por calor que tenga sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado superior.
El método puede comprender además las etapas de medir la curvatura de la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y preparar una primera placa (1) para la herramienta de sellado por calor que tenga sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).
Por lo general, se prepararán y medirán muchos ejemplos de recipientes de tal manera que la curvatura media se puede utilizar para la preparación de las curvaturas de la segunda (3) y/o primera (1) placas para la herramienta de sellado por calor.
La curvatura de las superficies de sellado superior e inferior de la pestaña (4) se puede medir mediante cualquier medio adecuado, tal como la microscopía o la interferometría.
Adicionalmente, en este documento se describe un método para sellar un tapa lidstock (5) a un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña con una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior, mediante una herramienta de sellado por calor que comprende una primera placa (1) adaptada para entrar en contacto con la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y una segunda placa (3) adaptada para prensar la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), en el que la segunda placa (3) se curva con la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4). Preferiblemente, la primera placa (1) se curva con la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).
Con el fin de controlar mejor la resistencia del sello realizado por las herramientas de sellado por calor de acuerdo con la invención, se prefiere que los instrumentos se calibren de tal manera que cuando la primera (1) y segunda (3) placas se unen entre sí para intercalar la tapa lidstock (5) y la pestaña (4) del recipiente, la fuerza aplicada se controla dentro de un intervalo preferido. Esta calibración se puede lograr por medio de las lecturas de presión o de desplazamiento en las placas, y las fórmulas de cálculo asociadas. Sin embargo, el método preferido es el uso de una células de carga de detección de cepa (por ejemplo, una célula de carga de semiconductores) montada en una réplica del envase tipo blíster con la superficie de la célula de carga en la misma posición que la superficie de sellado del envase tipo blíster (6) para utilizarse con la herramienta de la invención. La réplica del envase tipo blíster 86) se monta sobre la primera placa (1) y luego la primera (1) y la segunda (3) placas se ´llevan juntas a su posición de sellado normal y la fuerza aplicada se muestra por un monitor conectado a la celda de carga. La posición de sellado normal, se puede ajustar entonces y establecerse para proporcionar la fuerza de sellado requerida, como se muestra en la pantalla.

La Figura 1 muestra una vista en despiece de una herramienta de acuerdo con la invención con un envase tipo blíster sellado (6) entre las placas de la herramienta. La curvatura de las superficies se ha exagerado mucho.
La primera parte inferior 1 de la herramienta tiene un rebaje 2 en la primera cara 8 para acomodar el pozo 7 del envase tipo blíster a medida que se realiza el sellado. La tapa lidstock 5 se encuentra en contacto con la superficie de sellado superior de la pestaña 4 del envase tipo blíster 6. La primera cara 8 se curva con la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña 4. La segunda cara 9 de la segunda parte superior 3 de la herramienta se curva con la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado superior de la pestaña 4.

  1. REIVINDICACIONES
    1.
    Un método para proporcionar una herramienta de sellado por calor para sellar una tapa lidstock (5) a un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña (4) con una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior en la que la herramienta comprende una primera placa (1) adaptada para ponerse en contacto con la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y una segunda placa (3) adaptada para prensar la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), en el que la segunda placa (3) se curva con sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), comprendiendo las etapas de preparar un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña (4) con una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior, medir la curvatura de la superficie de sellado superior y preparar una segunda placa (3) para la herramienta de sellado por calor que tiene sustancialmente la misma o una curvatura idéntica a la superficie de sellado superior.

    Un método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1 que comprende además las etapas de medir la curvatura de la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y preparar una primera placa (1) para la herramienta de sellado por calor que tenga sustancialmente la misma o una curvatura idéntica a la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).

    Un método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 1 ó 2 que utiliza una herramienta de sellado por calor para sellar una tapa lidstock (5) a un recipiente polimérico rígido que comprende un pozo (7) y una pestaña (4) con una superficie de sellado superior curva y una superficie inferior, en el que la herramienta comprende una primera placa (1) adaptada para ponerse en contacto con la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4) y una segunda placa (3) adaptada para presionar la tapa lidstock (5) contra la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4), en el que la segunda placa (3) se curva sustancialmente con la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4).

    Un método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 3, en el que la segunda placa (3) se curva con sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie de sellado de la pestaña (4).

    Un método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 3 ó 4, en el que la primera placa (1) se curva con sustancialmente la misma curvatura que la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).

    Un método de acuerdo con la reivindicación 5, en el que la primera placa (1) se curva con una curvatura idéntica a la superficie inferior de la pestaña (4).
