Abstract
Geophysical mapping and prospecting apparatus for measuring the distortion of an electromagnetic field caused by minerals or other conductive geological forms, which has in combination an emission coil, a generator to supply a low frequency current to said coil that allows it to generate said field, a receiving coil, reference means for outputting from said transmission coil a reference voltage of the same frequency as that of the current in said coil, an adjustable phase slip attenuator, the input of which is connected to said reference means, an amplifier whose input is powered by the difference between the output voltages of said receiving coil and the attenuator, band-pass filtering means, to filter the input voltage of the amplifier, means for adjusting said phase slip attenuator so that in the absence of such geological formations, the output voltage of said amplific it is null or practically null, a phase sensitive detector for detecting the output voltage of said amplifier, a detector that is also powered by two phase reference voltage components, taken from said reference voltage, one of said two being components essentially in phase with said reference voltage and the other essentially quadrature with said reference voltage, all in such a way that the output voltage of said phase sensitive detector essentially constitutes a measure of the phase voltage components and in squaring the voltage obtained at the output of said amplifier.
