Abstract
Method of reinforcement of pieces of natural stone and stone obtained. The method consists in applying on one or both surfaces of a piece of natural stone (1), such as marble or granite or similar, a layer of mortar (2), in a fluid state, of appropriate properties so that it is adhered to the surface or face of the stone piece (1), being able to optionally incorporate a reinforcement mesh (3) sandwiched between the mortar layer (2) and the stone piece (1), or embedded in the mortar layer itself ( 2). After a curing process the mortar (2) hardens forming a single body with the piece of stone (1), on which it has adhered, increasing the thickness and mechanical properties of it. Optionally, two layers of mortar can be applied on both sides of the piece of stone (1) and break down the plate obtained in two pieces of stone, each of which will have its corresponding layer of mortar.
Description
Método de refuerzo de piezas de piedra natural y piedra obtenida.Method of reinforcing pieces of natural stone and stone obtained.
The present invention relates to a method of natural stone pieces reinforcement, which consists in the application of a mortar or putty of reinforcement, in the form of paste, on a or the two major surfaces of the piece of natural stone, with the in order to increase the mechanical properties of it, as well as increase its thickness
The part is also the object of the invention. obtained by means of the referred method, piece that may be of granite, marble or similar and as a final product is endowed in one or on both sides of a mortar layer with high properties mechanical and adhesion to the stone itself, interrupting the discontinuities, cracks and cracks of the piece, allowing its handling and transport with low risks of breakage.
The pieces of natural stone (marble, granite, limestone, etc.) have been used since ancient times as construction and decorative elements, mainly due to their aesthetic qualities
Now, one of the biggest problems at that the natural stone industry has to face is the high number of breaks that occur when making the pieces, especially in the stages of calibration, polishing and transport of same, being able to break a large number of said pieces.
Such a problem not only implies a decrease in production and therefore lower profit margins, which it ultimately leads to the consequent increase in the final price of marketing, but also the generation of large volumes of broken parts give rise to environmental problems derived from the creation of landfills for storage, or underutilization in the natural stone sector itself.
In order to solve these problems in part drawbacks, the stone parts manufacturing industry uses consolidants that reinforce the stone structure before that the pieces undergo demanding mechanical stresses, is say, before the polishing stage thereof, so that The most frequently used consolidants include unsaturated polyester resins and epoxy resins.
Specifically, the European patent can be cited with publication number 0786332, in which a process is described for the production of reinforced slabs of stone material, based on the application on the visible face of the stone slab, of a reinforcing layer consisting of non-glass fibers twisted, preferably in the form of a mat and by a transparent resin resistant to the action of the agents atmospheric and chemical, thus obtaining a reinforced slab that It has a small thickness, increasing resistance to negative flexion, concomitantly with flexural strength positive, if the back or invisible face of the slab is also reinforced
On the other hand, in the Spanish patent with number of publication 2154562, a manufacturing process is described of reinforced stone plates, based on the application on the back side of the stone plate of a layer of adhesive on which is subsequently deposited a ceramic piece, dimensionally coincidental from the superficial point of view with the original stone piece, the adhesive acting as a means of fixing the ceramic to the stone to, after curing, define a single piece body in which the ceramic layer stiffens structurally the base piece of stone and determines a good fixing surface in the assembly of the plate as a whole on the face in question.
In short, in this patent of invention the reinforced the piece of natural stone is achieved by the fixing, on the back side of the stone piece, of a ceramic piece, fixing that is done by application previous of an adhesive plate.
The method recommended is also in reinforcing a piece of natural stone, but based on a totally different solution to those described in the patents referred to in the previous section.
More specifically, the method of the invention it consists of the application on one of the faces of the piece of stone of a fluid mass of mortar, which is distributed homogeneously over the entire surface of said piece of stone, remaining attached to it, then submitting the whole to a mortar hardening process until it acquires mechanical properties suitable for handling and handling of said piece, which will be thicker than the original, although obviously you can start from a piece of minor stone thickness so that when the mortar layer is applied a thickness remains Standard or conventional.
Optionally a reinforcement can be integrated into mesh shape, which can be made of fiberglass Monodimensionally oriented, bidimensionally or three-dimensionally, between the surface of the stone piece and the mortar layer, or even inside said layer of mortar.
Also, optionally, another mortar layer on the opposite surface of the stone piece, so that this will be between two layers of mortar with the same characteristics and properties, so that the plate obtained can be split by intermediate cut, to obtain two pieces with a layer of mortar each.
The mortar will consist of one or more of the following components: binder material that may be of inorganic nature (Portland cement, white cement, cement glue, plaster, etc.) or of an organic nature (polyester resins unsaturated, epoxy resins, polyurethane resins, resins acrylics, rubber latexes, etc.), aggregates of different nature and granulometry (calcium carbonate, dolomite, silica, etc.) and agents for adjusting the viscosity and processability of the paste or Determining putty of the mortar itself.
In this way, and once applied so fluid mortar on the surface of the stone piece (This may be any size in terms of its amplitude) forming a layer several millimeters thick, it undergoes a mortar curing process, which hardens and forms a single body with the piece of stone on which it has adhered, increasing the thickness and mechanical properties thereof. In As for the optional reinforcing mesh that can be inserted, it can be made of fiberglass, polypropylene, etc., so that when the mortar hardens said mesh it will be located in the interior of such mortar or between it and the piece of natural stone, so that the mechanical properties are further increased of the elaborated piece.
As is evident, the mortar will be selected from so that it has high mechanical properties and adhesion to the stone, interrupting along the mortar layer the discontinuities, cracks and cracks of the piece of the stone, which is where most of the breaks
