Abstract

System to improve the efficiency of motion transmission mechanisms of the rod-lever and similar types.In conventional transmission mechanisms, the force is applied to the end of an arm (9) radial to the axis of rotation (2), or to an eccentric point that forms a crank on a plate fixed to the said shaft (2). This force can be applied directly, or by means of another crank or rod (15) hinged to the former.The principle of the proposed system is that the length of the crank (9, 17) can be varied, increasing it at the appropriate moments of the angular stroke and suitably shortening it when required to minimise dead strokes in the cycle, thereby benefiting as much as possible from the force applied.The crank (9) is formed from two extendible parts (9, 10). The change in length is made by means of a roller (5) mounted on a pin (6) that follows the profile of a flexible lever (1) fixed to the chassis or frame of the bicycle. The pin (6) moves in a radial housing (12) in its own axis of rotation (2), displacing hydraulic fluid towards the pin (11) attached to the telescopic end part (10) of the crank (9).
