Abstract

Mechanism for folding rear seats in vehicles. The mechanism is based on a bar (6) that supports the seat cushion (1) which at the bottom end is joined to a block (3) fixed to the floor of the vehicle, said bar (6) being complemented by a frontal arm or bar (7) attached between that and the forward part of the seat cushion (1). The mechanism also includes a rear vertical arm or bar (8) supporting the back-rest (2) which is attached at its lower end to a rear block (4) which is also fixed to the floor of the car although in this case it is releasable to allow the folding of the seat unit from its normal position in use to a forward tipping position in which the seat cushion (1) and the back-rest (2) are placed vertically, taking up a minimum of space. The mechanism, with means of blocking and releasing to permit the folding movements and the corresponding unfolding ones can be applied to a rear row of seats in a MPV or the like, so that when folded the seat cushion (1) and the back-rest (2) are in a vertical position and next to the rear part of the seats in front.
