Abstract
Electrosynthesis procedure for producing poly-P-arylene vinylenes. This invention refers to a procedure for producing new derivatives of poly-p-arylene vinylenes, poly-p-phenylene vinylene and poly-p-naphthalene-vinylenes using an electrochemical synthesis method and the mixture of these polymers with others, whether conductors or not, using conventional blending techniques by dissolution in suitable solvents and later evaporation of the solvent, or not, as well as by fusion of one or both polymers using known techniques for processing polymers such as extrusion, injection, blowing, pressure rotation, thermosetting, etc. for which are used the soluble fractions of the polymers derived from poly-p-arylene-vinylenes. This way electrically conductive paints and varnishes can easily be prepared, as well as conductive parts and systems. Compared to the chemical route, the procedure described in this patent uses milder reaction conditions, providing better yields and producing fractions of derivatives that are soluble in conventional solvents and are fusible, enabling their processing using the aforementioned techniques. The non-soluble polymer fractions can be used in preparing conductive compounds by mixing them with conventional isolating polymers which form the continuous matrix. Additionally, the polymers and copolymers, alone or mixed, have electroluminescence and electrochromism properties making them useable in all applications where these properties are needed. The electro-synthesis of electro-luminescent vinylene derivatives comprises production of poly-p-arylene, poly-p-phenylene and poly-p-nephthalene vinylene compounds, by dissolution in solvents and evaporation. Thus electrically-conducting paints and varnishes are obtained in relatively high yields. The insoluble polymer fractions are used to prepare conducting compounds incorporating conventional insulating compounds.
