Abstract

By means of this device it is possible plastically to change the shape of the cornea by means of the application of a vacuum. The device consists of a vacuum chamber 1 with apertures 3 which is connected to a vacuum pump 2. By placing the device on the surface of the cornea and then generating a vacuum, it is possible to obtain plastic deformation of the area of the cornea under the apertures. The result is that the curvature of the cornea and the refraction of the eye are modified. A flatter cornea reduces or corrects myopia. Applications of this invention include the correction of all refraction errors, myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism.
