Abstract

The compensating tanks (level vessels) of known cross-flow coolers are arranged parallel to one of the two tanks (cooling-water reservoirs). It is not possible to install such cross-flow coolers when building conditions are restricted. It is proposed to arrange the compensating tank exclusively in the region of the inflow nozzle arranged above one tank and to connect it via a channel (duct, conduit) opening in the region of the highest point of the compensating tank to the inlet chamber behind the inflow nozzle, to separate this inlet chamber from the interior of the tank by a restricting wall (baffle) which releases a smaller flow cross-section than the flow cross-section of the inflow nozzle, in order finally to connect the compensating tank in its lower region via an opening to the interior of the tank, which connection ends behind the restricting wall in the flow direction. The effect of this configuration is a positive venting (discharging, deaerating, purging) flow in the compensating tank without the need for further separate measures at the tanks. Use for cross-flow coolers in internal combustion engines of commercial vehicles.
