Abstract

The method of manufacture of cork stoppers commences with analysis, with the aid of automatic vision, of the surface of the sheet of cork (7) from which the stoppers will be cut. The image is processed to locate faults and zones of highest quality. The punching of stoppers from the high quality zone is optimised to maximise the number of good quality corks obtained. The image is gathered by a video camera (3) and processed by a computer (4). The co-ordinates of the centre of the circular contour of each extraction are determined and coded into electrical signals. These signals are delivered through an interface (5) to an electromechanical system (2) that positions the cork sheet and the cork punching tool (10).
