Abstract

Bone replacement prosthesis of modular design, indicated in bone replacements of the proximal part of the femur, up to 2/3 of the upper femur, which has a metaphyseal component, one or more accumulable diaphysis components and an intramedullary rod, in such a way that in order to connect the metaphyseal component, the diaphysis component or components and the intramedullary rod, use is made of a screw which secures the prosthesis, being screwed into the intramedullary rod. The metaphyseal component is single and therefore common to all the interventions and has a medial opening, and the diaphyseal components vary their lengths from one size to another by a small fixed amount, so the maximum error which can be made is precisely the value of this very small set amount. The intramedullary rod can be of different lengths and diameters which are chosen depending on the diameter of the patient's medullary canal and the quality of the bone and in order to improve the fixation thereof, once introduced into the healthy bone, use is made of cortical screws which transversally fix the lateral tongue of the rod to the bone.
