Abstract

Process for the treatment of waste water in the ceramics industry which includes physical/chemical treatment with the operations of (i) pH adjustment, (ii) addition of a coagulant, (iii) addition of a polyelectrolyte, (iv) sludge separation and (v) optional subsequent treatment of the purified water in which (I) the order of the first two operations is reversed, adding the coagulant first and then automatically adjusting the pH, (II) the pH is automatically adjusted by means of a system involving two electrodes in such a way that when one is deactivated the other which has been previously regenerated automatically comes into operation and vice versa, (III) optional subsequent treatment is applied which includes a stage of filtration and another stage of ion exchange. Has application in the purification of waste water originating from the ceramics industry with the view to possible discharge to river basins or irrigation networks.
