Abstract

New polynucleotide sequences are claimed which (a) are derived from regions coding for the RESA antigen of Plasmodium falciparum, (b) hybridise with the sequence (a), (c) are related to sequences (a) or (b) or (d) on expression codes for a polypeptide derived from the RESA antigen of P. falciparum or which displays similar biological or immunological activity to the polypeptide. Also claimed are recombinant DNA molecules contg. the polynucleotide sequences and hosts transformed with the recombinant DNA. - Various fragments of RESA DNA are prepd. by restriction with enzymes, shearing by sonication or by digestion with enzymes DNase I of Bal31. The isolated fragments of RESA DNA are then enzymatically linked 'head to tail' to form inframe multimers of these fragments. Recombinant DNA molecules have an expression control sequence operatively linked to the DNA.
