Abstract

The invention relates to a self-inflating barrier (1) for the containment of hydrocarbons, comprising a self-inflating float (2) and means allowing the self-inflation of the float, said self-inflation means including peripheral resilient expansion strips (3, 4) disposed inside the float (2) and pre-tensioned resilient pull elements (5) disposed between the ends of the strips (3, 4) such that, upon contraction, said pull elements (5) cause the strips (3, 4) to bend, giving the float a tubular shape. The barrier is characterised in that the pull elements (5) are rubber. The barrier inflates quickly and reliably with minimum intervention from operators.
