Description
- The present invention relates to a handle lock assembly according to the preamble of the claim 1.
- Handle lock assembly structures, which are suitable for linear movement and have an arm that the user can move in the vertical direction, have been used for many years. Such handle lock assemblies of a conventional type have a construction in which: a main body of the assembly is fixedly mounted on a door of a box or container and a handle or lever is moved relative to the main body. In this type of handle lock assembly, a lock plug is also incorporated in the handle wherein the handle is pushed back rearward relative to the main body and held in its closed position in the main body.
- It may be desirable to change the handle having the lock plug for a variety of reasons. When such changes are necessary, it is potentially both expensive and time-consuming, which generally results to change the lock as a whole. In order to change different types of locking systems in the current technique, the lock must be completely disassembled and replaced with another one. So, replacing the handle lock assembly with the new one is relatively time-consuming and may require the services of a skilled professional locksmith.
- A prior art publication in the technical field of the invention may be referred to as

- The present invention relates to a handle lock assembly (10) for a door of a cabinet, the handle lock assembly (10) comprising: a main body (20) having a handle housing (28) extending along a longitudinal axis (X) of the handle lock assembly (10); a handle (30) adapted to move between an unlocked position in which the handle (30) is lifted from the handle housing (28) and a locked position in which the handle (30) is substantially within the handle housing (28), and a lock plug (33) provided at the handle (30). Said handle lock assembly (10) further comprises: at least one geared portion (32) formed on the handle (30), being rotatable within the main body (20) when the handle (30) is lifted; a movable member (24) having at least one toothed portion (242) for rotating a pinion gear (26) by the movement of the movable member (24); a plurality of the engagement holes (243) formed in the movable member (24) for engaging with corresponding teeth (322) of the geared portion (32) so as to convert a rotational movement from the handle (30) to a linear movement; a movable bearing member (21) placed within the handle housing (28); at least one pin receiving portion (22) formed on the bearing member (21); and at least one pin (31) formed on the handle (30), attachable to the pin receiving portion (22) when placing an interchangeable handle (30). So that different types of handles (30) having a different types of lock plugs (33) can be easily disassembled and attached to the handle lock assembly (10).
- Referring to
Fig. 1 , the bearing member (21) has at least one adjustment member (23) arranged in an adjustment member housing (29) of the bearing member (21) and as can be seen inFig. 4 and6a , one end of the adjustment member (232) is rotatably attached to the main body (20). This end of the adjustment member (232) can be in the form of a pin arranged to attach the corresponding hole formed in the main body (20). Advantageously, said adjustment member (23) is rotatable between a first position in which the bearing member (21) is retracted and a second position in which the bearing member (21) is at least partly moved under an upper covering portion (281) of the handle housing (28). The first position of the adjustment member (23) and the bearing member (21) can be seen in Fig. 4a wherein the handle (30) is attached to the bearing member (21), and inFig. 6a by using a suitable tool (i.e. Allen key) adjustment member (23) is rotated and the bearing member (21) is at least partly moved under the upper covering portion (281) of the handle housing (28). So, said adjustment member (23) is used to change the location of the handle (30) when replacement is needed. - The adjustment member (23) can be formed as an eccentric pin, so an off-axis upper part (231) of the adjustment member (23) is housed in the bearing member (21) and when rotated by the user, the upper part (231) urges the bearing member (21) to move linearly within the handle housing (28). The upper part (231) is arranged to abut the adjustment member (23) and urges to move the bearing member (21) when rotated. The adjustment member housing (29) is preferably circular and is formed with respect to the adjustment member (23). In a possible embodiment, a snap ring (27) in the form of a "C" is used to attach the adjustment member (23) to the bearing member (21).
- Referring to
Fig. 4 , the bearing member (21) has two similar oppositely oriented pin receiving portions (22) for receiving corresponding pins (31) of the handle (30). Preferably, two pins (31) are oppositely arranged at the planar lateral surfaces (321) of the geared portion (32) of the handle (30) to fit into the corresponding pin receiving portions (22).Fig. 5 shows the engaged position of the corresponding pins (31) within the corresponding pin receiving portions (22). When the user wants to change the handle, (s)he can easily rotate the adjustment member (23) to retract the bearing member (21) from the operating position, so the handle (30) can be removed from its housing. Said pins (31) can have a circular cross-section and so the pin receiving portions (22) are shaped and dimensioned with respect to corresponding pins (31). In a possible embodiment, the pin receiving portions (22) have a U-shaped cross-section for a better and easy engagement. - Referring to 7 and 8, the movable member (24) has a plurality of similar engagement holes (243) for meshing corresponding teeth (322) of the geared portion (32). With this arrangement, when the handle (30) is lifted (i.e., at least partly rotated around an axis), the movable member (24) is forced to move in the direction of the longitudinal axis (X) of the handle lock assembly (10), which causes the pinion gear (26) to rotate. There is at least one toothed portion (242) with a plurality of engaging teeth (i.e., in the form of a rack) on one of the lower walls of the movable member (24) and these meshing teeth interact with the pinion gear (26) and ensures its rotation. The pinion gear (26) can have an inner groove that is shaped and dimensioned with respect to an engagement protrusion of the transmission bar (50). The pinion gear (26) can be arranged to snap fit with the transmission bar (50) and in a possible embodiment, both of them are produced as a single part. The transmission bar (50) having a rectangular or square cross-section can be attached to locking means (not shown) with respect to the desired locking type (i.e., longitudinal locking rods or a hook/tongue).
- Referring to
Fig. 1 , the movable member (24) can be used with a spring (25) and is configured to be spring-loaded with at least one spring (25) to control the movement of the movable member (24). The spring (25) is kept in an optimum position and the force of the compressed spring (25) is properly transferred to the handle (30) when the lock plug (33) is released. Moreover, the movable member (24) can have at least one vertically arranged upper guiding portion (241) arranged to abut the bearing member (21). In line with that, the bearing member (21) has a substantially U-shaped cross-section in which two upper guiding portions (241) are guided, as can be seen inFig. 5a . - The present invention advantageously allows the use of more than one different type of handle (30). The lock plug (33) provided at the handles (30) may also be different.
- Referring to
Fig. 3a to 3c , the interchangeable handles (30) have the lock plug (33) with a lock plug cover (34) for closing or opening a keyhole of the lock plug (33). For the lock plug (33), after a suitable key is inserted into a keyhole of the lock plug (33) and then rotated, a spring-biased lock cam (not shown) can retract, and the handle (30) is released. When the user further lifts the handle (30), the movable member (13) is moved along the longitudinal axis (X) of the handle lock assembly (10) causing the pinion gear (26) to be rotated.Fig. 3a and 3c show a first and third types of lock plugs (33) having a keyhole for inserting a suitable key and a retractable spring-biased lock cam. Advantageously, the lock plug (33) at the handle (30) may differ.Figs. 3a and 3c have a similar types of lock plugs (33), andFig. 3b shows a push-to-open lock plug (33). - The numbers and the shapes of the teeth can vary with respect to the geared portions (32) and the pinion gear (26). The handle lock assembly (10) presented within the scope of the present invention can be used on cabinets, boxes, or panel doors. The handle housing (28) is specifically arranged to receive the handle (30) such that the handle (30) and main body (20) form a single unit when the handle (30) is in the closed position.
- The handle lock assembly (10) comprises a base plate (40) attached to the main body (20) for forming the bottom of the handle lock assembly (10) and has a plurality of fastening holes (42) for receiving fastening members (41) to attach the base plate (40) to the main body (20). Moreover, the handle (30) and the handle housing (28) are arranged such that when the handle (30) is in the locked position, the upper surfaces of the handle (30) and the main body (20) are at the same level. A closing or opening of the handle lock assembly (10) takes place if the handle (30) is swung up and the pinion gear (26) is correspondingly adjusted. The handle lock assembly (10) presented within the scope of the present invention can be used on cabinets, boxes, or panel doors.
