- DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The first aspect of the present invention provides a
- Composition comprising color-shifting effect pigments and an absorbent binder serving as an embedding matrix, which is such that the color reflection of the effect pigments embedded in the absorbent binder in the visible reflection spectrum is reduced overall in at least one band compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment in order in this way to filter out or remove a color component.
- the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum refers in particular to at least one viewing situation or lighting situation, i.e. viewing or lighting from above and/or at a tilt angle.
- viewing or illumination in top view refers to viewing, e.g. of the value document substrate (or the platelet-shaped pigment) in the tilt angle, i.e. a tilted view, for example at an angle of 45° with respect to the normal angle.
- composition according to the first aspect of the present invention serves as a species due to the absorbent binder Color system through which a wide variety of colors are available.
- the binder serves as an embedding matrix for the color-changing effect pigments contained in the composition.
- the absorbent binder is, for example, inherently absorbent, which can be generated in a binder, for example, by aging processes, in particular oxidative processes. Furthermore, the absorbent nature of the binder can be produced by adding dyes or colored pigments, starting from a transparent binder.
- the absorbent binder serving as the embedding matrix is such that the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment in the at least one band has an intensity of more than 20%, particularly preferably an intensity of more than 35% in order to filter out some of the color.
- the subject of the second aspect of the present invention is a color-shifting effect pigment which is encased by an absorbing binder so as to form a core-shell particle, the absorbing binder being such that the color reflection of the core-shell particle in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment is reduced in at least one band in order to filter out a color component in this way.
- the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum refers in particular to at least one viewing situation or Lighting situation, ie viewing or lighting from above and/or at a tilt angle.
- the color-shifting effect pigment according to the second aspect of the present invention acts as a type of color system through which a wide variety of colors can be obtained.
- the binder serves as a shell for the color-changing effect pigment contained therein.
- the absorbent binder is, for example, inherently absorbent, which can be generated in a binder, for example, by aging processes, in particular oxidative processes. Furthermore, the absorbent nature of the binder can be produced by adding dyes or colored pigments, starting from a transparent binder.
- the absorbent binder is such that the color reflection of the core-shell particle in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment in the at least one band by an intensity of more than 20%, particularly preferably by one Intensity of more than 35% is reduced in order to filter out a part of the color in this way.
- the perceived colors are mostly mixed colors, e.g. gold, jade, magenta, azure, since the spectral peak width is large with a small layer thickness of the dielectric, and in the case of thicker ones Layers consist of several spectrally separated reflection peaks.
- the customary color-shifting effect pigments therefore do not exhibit any reflection bands with a narrow spectral distribution.
- the resulting chroma value is low.
- a color shift effect has blue and yellow reflection bands in equal parts, the resulting chroma value will be low and the mixed color will appear whitish.
- the present invention is based on the finding that the reflection spectrum of color-shifting effect pigments, which is clearly determined by the interference layer (in particular on the basis of the refractive index and the layer thickness of the dielectric layer), can be manipulated by adding translucent, i.e. color-transparent, chromatic colors.
- a first effect is based on the fact that the hue of the chromatic color is visible in the form of a mixture together with the color of the color shift effect.
- the chromatic color shows no color variation when tilted.
- the chromatic color In order to obtain the color flop effect of the color system, the chromatic color must be highly translucent and transparent for at least part of the color shift reflection spectrum or color shift reflection spectrum.
- a second effect is based on the fact that the chromatic color in the reflection spectrum of the color-shifting effect pigment filters out color components that are complementary to the chromatic color, which is the decisive criterion of the present invention.
- the original color shift hue or color shift hue can be manipulated or controlled when viewed from above and/or when tilted.
- the filter effect of the chromatic color does not necessarily have to be the same for viewing from above and viewing from a tilted view.
- the color of the color-changing effect pigment can be changed from magenta to orange, for example, when viewed from above, while the color of the color-changing effect pigment when viewed at the tilt angle in both cases (i.e. both with and without a translucent chromatic color) appears greenish.
- the magenta-green color shift effect can thus be changed to an orange-green color shift effect.
- the hue value and the chroma value in the top view also change here.
- a suitable colored paint is stirred into a binder in a low concentration as a translucent colored paint, resulting in a colored translucent binder.
- the color-changing effect pigment is then added to this mixture and embedded.
- the binder system can be aqueous or oily, or a 100% system or UV-curing system.
- Print patterns that can be produced can be produced in particular on the basis of proportions by weight with 0.01% to 10% colored ink, 5% to 30% color-shifting effect pigment, with the remainder being the binder.
- the natural yellowing i.e. the inherent color of the binder
- Some binders have their own color. For example, binders for printing inks yellow after a certain period of time. If one now ensures that the pigments are completely covered, e.g. if the pigments are "non-leafing" and/or the binder layer is selected to be thicker and/or the color-shifting effect pigments are deepened in the binder layer, the desired color filtering can be achieved with the pure create binders.
- Third preferred embodiment (relates primarily to the second aspect of the invention): It is also possible to refine the pigment itself by encapsulating each individual pigment with a color-translucent shell.
- pigments are encapsulated with polymer, resin or SiOx shells for better corrosion resistance, with a capsule wall thickness in a range from 5nm to 10mth being preferred and a capsule wall thickness in a range from 5nm to 5mth being particularly preferred.
- This can be achieved, among other things, by wet chemical or dry spray processes.
- the production of a silica coating is known in the prior art, see for example WO 2011/066948 A1. That
- color shift color changes can be implemented according to the present invention, which differ from the original color shift color primarily in hue and/or chroma, but also with reference to the value when viewed from above and/or when viewed at a tilt angle . This allows new color shift colors to be established and customer-specific requests to be addressed.
- the pigments used in the present invention optionally contain a magnetic layer, so that after the composition or the printing ink has been applied by printing to a printing material, e.g. a value document substrate, the pigments can be spatially oriented in an external magnetic field in the not yet cured state of the printing ink .
- the effect pigments used in the present invention with a color shift effect are based in particular on a thin-layer system with an absorber/dielectric/reflector structure, it being possible for a magnetic layer to be present as an option.

W ertgegenstand object of value
The invention relates to a composition, a color-shifting effect pigment, a printing ink and an object of value, in particular a banknote.
For example, screen printing inks are known in the prior art that have a color change effect. In the field of banknote production, for example, optically variable ink (OVI) has been used for many years, in which platelet-shaped pigments are coated on both sides with an interference layer structure. The interference layer structure, in particular a three-layer reflector/dielectric/absorber structure, mediates the viewer a different color impression depending on the viewing angle. Such interference layer structures are usually produced by vacuum evaporation. Such color change effects cannot usually be carried out with any colors. When the object to be viewed is tilted starting from the vertical viewing angle, the reflection spectrum shifts to the short-wave wavelength range, so that For example, starting from the red wavelength range, a color change can occur via the yellow wavelength range to the green wavelength range, but not vice versa It is also possible to tilt the color change effect towards a resulting colorless or white appearance.
Druckfarben auf Basis vonAlso known are so-called OVMI flakes, ie magnetically orientable effect pigments. Furthermore, interference pigments of the first order are known which are based on natural mica or on aluminum oxide flakes, borosilicate flakes or silicon dioxide flakes and are wet-chemically coated with titanium dioxide and/or metal oxide. Printing inks based on
Interference pigments, which only have a titanium dioxide coating, are transparent and are almost undetectable in the form of a print on white backgrounds, while the interference color shows up at the tilt angle. The interference color depends on the titanium dioxide coating. Depending on the thickness, the hue changes from yellow to red to blue. Such pigments are available, for example, from Merck under the brand name Iriodin.
Interference pigments with an iron oxide coating, on the other hand, are visible and, depending on the thickness of the coating, already have a bronze or red color impression when viewed from above on a white background.
In this case, a semi-transparent color layer is arranged in an overlapping area over the optically variable layer, the Color impression of the optically variable layer is adapted to the color impression of the semi-transparent color layer in the overlapping area when viewed under predetermined viewing conditions. The wording "the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum" refers in particular to at least one viewing situation or lighting situation, i.e. viewing or lighting from above and/or at a tilt angle.
The term "viewing or illumination in top view" refers to viewing, e.g. of the value document substrate (or the platelet-shaped pigment) in the tilt angle, i.e. a tilted view, for example at an angle of 45° with respect to the normal angle.
The composition according to the first aspect of the present invention serves as a species due to the absorbent binder Color system through which a wide variety of colors are available. The binder serves as an embedding matrix for the color-changing effect pigments contained in the composition.
The absorbent binder is, for example, inherently absorbent, which can be generated in a binder, for example, by aging processes, in particular oxidative processes. Furthermore, the absorbent nature of the binder can be produced by adding dyes or colored pigments, starting from a transparent binder.
It is preferred that the absorbent binder serving as the embedding matrix is such that the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment in the at least one band has an intensity of more than 20%, particularly preferably an intensity of more than 35% in order to filter out some of the color.
The subject of the second aspect of the present invention is a color-shifting effect pigment which is encased by an absorbing binder so as to form a core-shell particle, the absorbing binder being such that the color reflection of the core-shell particle in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment is reduced in at least one band in order to filter out a color component in this way.
Beleuchtungssituation, d.h. Betrachtung bzw. Beleuchtung in Aufsicht und/ oder im Kippwinkel. The wording "the color reflection in the visible reflection spectrum" refers in particular to at least one viewing situation or Lighting situation, ie viewing or lighting from above and/or at a tilt angle.
Due to the absorbing binder, the color-shifting effect pigment according to the second aspect of the present invention acts as a type of color system through which a wide variety of colors can be obtained. The binder serves as a shell for the color-changing effect pigment contained therein.
The absorbent binder is, for example, inherently absorbent, which can be generated in a binder, for example, by aging processes, in particular oxidative processes. Furthermore, the absorbent nature of the binder can be produced by adding dyes or colored pigments, starting from a transparent binder.
It is preferred that the absorbent binder is such that the color reflection of the core-shell particle in the visible reflection spectrum compared to the color reflection of the pure color-shifting effect pigment in the at least one band by an intensity of more than 20%, particularly preferably by one Intensity of more than 35% is reduced in order to filter out a part of the color in this way.
Farbwechseleffekten, z.B. Gold-Grün, Blau-Rot, Magenta-Grün, beschränkt. In the case of a conventional color-shifting effect pigment according to the prior art, the color when viewed from above and the color when viewed at the tilt angle (and correspondingly the perceived color flop) is clearly determined by the thickness of the dielectric and by the refractive index of the material. That means, that the colors of a color-changing effect pigment for different lighting situations or tilt angles cannot be chosen independently of one another, but are intrinsically fixed. The number of realizable color shift effects, ie color change effects, eg gold-green, blue-red, magenta-green, is therefore physically limited.
It is also characteristic of the conventional color-changing effect pigment that the perceived colors are mostly mixed colors, e.g. gold, jade, magenta, azure, since the spectral peak width is large with a small layer thickness of the dielectric, and in the case of thicker ones Layers consist of several spectrally separated reflection peaks. Overall, the customary color-shifting effect pigments therefore do not exhibit any reflection bands with a narrow spectral distribution.
At least in the case of simple layer systems with a few thin film layers, coloring based on interference systems cannot reproduce any colors (i.e. hue or chroma values).
In addition, with the conventional color-shifting effect pigments, it can be the case that spectral reflection components of a peak or of a plurality of peaks lie in complementary color ranges. As a result, the resulting chroma value is low. For example, if a color shift effect has blue and yellow reflection bands in equal parts, the resulting chroma value will be low and the mixed color will appear whitish.
Both with the composition according to the invention according to the first aspect of the present invention on the one hand and with the color-shifting effect pigment according to the invention according to the second Aspect of the present invention, on the other hand, provides an alternative way of providing a color system that differs from the color shift effects of the previously known color shifting effect pigments in color perception, especially in the hue value and in the chroma value, when viewed from above and/or from an oblique perspective differs and accordingly offers a more extensive color shift effect color palette.
The present invention is based on the finding that the reflection spectrum of color-shifting effect pigments, which is clearly determined by the interference layer (in particular on the basis of the refractive index and the layer thickness of the dielectric layer), can be manipulated by adding translucent, i.e. color-transparent, chromatic colors.
Dabei hat die lasierende Buntfarbe zwei Effekte: The translucent color has two effects:
A first effect is based on the fact that the hue of the chromatic color is visible in the form of a mixture together with the color of the color shift effect. In comparison to the color-changing effect pigment, the chromatic color shows no color variation when tilted. In order to obtain the color flop effect of the color system, the chromatic color must be highly translucent and transparent for at least part of the color shift reflection spectrum or color shift reflection spectrum.
A second effect is based on the fact that the chromatic color in the reflection spectrum of the color-shifting effect pigment filters out color components that are complementary to the chromatic color, which is the decisive criterion of the present invention. By selectively filtering reflection bands in the spectrum of the color-shifting effect pigment, the original color shift hue or color shift hue can be manipulated or controlled when viewed from above and/or when tilted. After this the reflection bands of the color-shifting effect pigment migrate into the short-wave range when tilted, the filter effect of the chromatic color does not necessarily have to be the same for viewing from above and viewing from a tilted view.
By using a translucent chromatic color, the color of the color-changing effect pigment can be changed from magenta to orange, for example, when viewed from above, while the color of the color-changing effect pigment when viewed at the tilt angle in both cases (i.e. both with and without a translucent chromatic color) appears greenish. According to this example, the magenta-green color shift effect can thus be changed to an orange-green color shift effect. The hue value and the chroma value in the top view also change here.
Bevorzugte Ausführungsformen für das Einbringen der Buntfarbe in das System werden nachstehend erläutert: Preferred embodiments for introducing the chromatic paint into the system are explained below:
Erste bevorzugte Ausführungsform (betrifft vor allem den ersten Aspekt der Erfindung): First preferred embodiment (relates primarily to the first aspect of the invention):
Zweite bevorzugte Ausführungsform (betrifft vor allem den ersten Aspekt der Erfindung): A suitable colored paint is stirred into a binder in a low concentration as a translucent colored paint, resulting in a colored translucent binder. The color-changing effect pigment is then added to this mixture and embedded. In this way, in particular, a screen printing ink or an intaglio printing ink can be obtained. In particular, the binder system can be aqueous or oily, or a 100% system or UV-curing system. Print patterns that can be produced can be produced in particular on the basis of proportions by weight with 0.01% to 10% colored ink, 5% to 30% color-shifting effect pigment, with the remainder being the binder. Second preferred embodiment (relates primarily to the first aspect of the invention):
The natural yellowing, i.e. the inherent color of the binder, is used. Some binders have their own color.
DasThird preferred embodiment (relates primarily to the second aspect of the invention): It is also possible to refine the pigment itself by encapsulating each individual pigment with a color-translucent shell. For example, pigments are encapsulated with polymer, resin or SiOx shells for better corrosion resistance, with a capsule wall thickness in a range from 5nm to 10mth being preferred and a capsule wall thickness in a range from 5nm to 5mth being particularly preferred. This can be achieved, among other things, by wet chemical or dry spray processes. In this case, it would be possible to add nanoscopic color pigments to the corresponding shell material and thus apply the color filter directly to the pigment. The production of a silica coating is known in the prior art, see for example WO 2011/066948 A1. That
Creating a polymer shell is also known in the prior art, see for example the documents WO 2017/080656 A1, WO2017/080652A1 and WO 2017/080653 A1. In principle, color shift color changes can be implemented according to the present invention, which differ from the original color shift color primarily in hue and/or chroma, but also with reference to the value when viewed from above and/or when viewed at a tilt angle . This allows new color shift colors to be established and customer-specific requests to be addressed.
In principle, the pigments used in the present invention optionally contain a magnetic layer, so that after the composition or the printing ink has been applied by printing to a printing material, e.g. a value document substrate, the pigments can be spatially oriented in an external magnetic field in the not yet cured state of the printing ink .

Das Bindemittel enthältFIG. 1 shows a printed layer produced on a value document substrate 3, in the example the paper substrate of a bank note, which was obtained using a printing ink based on the composition according to the first aspect of the invention. The printing layer contains color-shifting effect pigments 2 and a binder 1. The binder contains
Color pigments (shown dotted in the figure) that color the binder so that the binder is absorbent.
Farbwechseleffekten, z.B. Gold-Grün, Blau-Rot, Magenta-Grün, beschränkt. FIG. 2 shows a printed layer produced on a value document substrate 7, in the example the paper substrate of a banknote, which was obtained using a printing ink 4 with color-shifting effect pigments according to the second aspect of the invention. The color-shifting effect pigments are each in the form of core-shell particles, with the core being based on a color-shifting thin-layer system 5 and the shell 6 being based on an absorbent binder 6 . The absorbent binder contains colored pigments (shown dotted in the figure) which color the binder. In the case of a conventional color-shifting effect pigment according to the prior art, the color when viewed from above and the color when viewed at the tilt angle (and correspondingly the perceived color flop) is clearly determined by the thickness of the dielectric and by the refractive index of the material. This means that the colors of a color-changing effect pigment for different lighting situations or tilting angles cannot be chosen independently of one another as desired, but are intrinsically fixed.
FIG. 3 shows the reflection spectrum (reflection R related to the wavelength λ(lambda)) of a printed layer with conventional color-shifting effect pigments when the value-document substrate is viewed from above. The letter "L" represents the light source, the letter "B" represents the viewer.
FIG. 4 shows the reflection spectrum (reflection R related to the wavelength λ(lambda)) of a printed layer with conventional color-shifting effect pigments when viewing the value-document substrate at the tilt angle α (alpha). The letter "L" represents the light source, the letter "B" represents the viewer.
From Figures 3 and 4 it can be seen that in the course of tilting the value document substrate including the printing layer containing pigments (oblique incidence of light and viewing angle), a reflection spectrum results which is shifted into the short-wave, i.e. green, range compared to the top view.
FIG. 5 shows the reflection spectrum (reflection R related to the wavelength λ(lambda)) of a color-changing effect pigment with a thin (181 nm) dielectric layer (S1O2). The peak maximum is around 570nm.
FIG. 6 shows the reflection spectrum (reflection R related to the wavelength λ(lambda)) of a color-changing effect pigment with a thicker (435 nm) dielectric layer (S1O2). The peak maxima are around 440nm and 660nm.
For example, if a color shift effect has equal parts of blue and yellow reflection bands the resulting chroma value is low and the mixed color appears whitish.
Figure 11 shows colors in Hue, Chrc>ma and Value coordinates. The reference number 16 designates a yellow area and the reference number 17 designates a blue area.
Figure 7 shows the original reflection spectrum (reflection R based on the wavelength A (lambda)) of a printing layer 11 with color-shifting effect pigments magenta-green in plan (dashed line 8) and the reflection spectrum of a printing layer 11 according to the invention with color-shifting effect pigments magenta-green in combination with absorbent yellow binder (solid line 9) in plan view.
The above example shows how a standard magenta-green color shift effect is changed to an orange-green color shift effect. FIG. 7 shows the reflection spectrum of a color-shifting effect pigment with approx. 410 nm S1O2 as the dielectric. The magenta color seen from above results as a color mixture from the peak in the blue (approx. 410 nm) and in the yellow-red range (approx. 610 nm, see reference number 10). By adding yellow-translucent color, the first peak in the blue range is strongly filtered (because here the transmission for a wavelength below 500nm is low), while the wavelengths above 500nm are hardly filtered.
The addition of a yellow, translucent color turns magenta into orange when viewed from above. Figure 8 shows the original reflection spectrum (reflection R related to the wavelength A (lambda)) of a printing layer 15 with color-shifting magenta-green effect pigments in the tilt angle (dashed line 13) and the reflection spectrum of a printing layer with color-shifting magenta-green effect pigments in combination with absorbent , yellow binder (solid line 12) at tilt angle a (alpha).
If you tilt the document of value substrate including the print layer containing pigments (oblique incidence of light and viewing angle), a reflection spectrum results that is shifted to the short-wave, i.e. green, range compared to the reflection spectrum obtained in plan view.
Here, the yellow translucent chromatic color hardly acts as a color filter, because the color-shifting effect pigment no longer shows a reflection peak in the blue range when viewed from an angle (the peak is shifted to the ultraviolet). The main peak, which has migrated into the green range with tilting, is hardly filtered by the translucent chromatic color, since green is still mostly in the transmission band of the yellow chromatic color. The resulting reflection spectrum, both with and without chromatic paint, when viewed at a tilt angle, hardly looks any different than when viewed from above.
It can be seen from FIG. 8 that the color perceptible at the tilt angle changes only to a small extent after the addition of absorbing, yellow chromatic color.
By using a translucent chromatic color, the visible color of the color system can be changed from magenta to orange, while the in both cases, the peak color appears greenish (see the peak with the reference number 14 in FIG. 8).
In the above example, the magenta-green color shift effect can be changed to an orange-green color shift effect. The hue and chroma value in the top view also changes in this way.
Im Bandenspektrum zu erkennen sind die Farbe Violett bei etwa 380nm, dieFIG. 9 serves for understanding and shows a band spectrum in which the visually detectable color is plotted in relation to the wavelength.
