Definitions
- the present invention relates to a door lock assembly for being arranged at a door.
- the door lock assembly includes a cylinder housing, a cylinder body, a rotating member, a driving pin coupled to the rotating member and configured to rotate with rotation of the rotating member and operable to rotate and move a latch between two positions including a door locked position and a door unlocked position, and a first locking device preventing rotation of the rotating member in the absence of an appropriate key.
- EP 2 927 399 shows a door lock assembly in which a cylinder body is adapted for axial movement in respect to the cylinder housing and which includes a second locking device preventing axial movement of the cylinder body within the cylinder housing in a first blocking state, and in a second released state allowing axial movement of the cylinder body such that it is axially movable from the interior of the cylinder housing to enable rotation of the cylinder body in relation to the cylinder housing together with the rotating member to cause the driving pin to rotate between the door locked position and the door unlocked position.
- An object of the present invention is to at least partly overcome the above-mentioned drawbacks and to provide a door lock assembly which allows a door to be locked and unlocked using two different locking actuators, wherein one of the locking actuators is the key to the original door lock.
- a door lock assembly for being arranged at a door, comprising a mounting body adapted for secure attachment to a door, a cylinder housing coupled to said mounting body, a first cylinder body located at least partially within said cylinder housing, a first rotating member located at least partially within the first cylinder body and selectively rotatable with respect to the first cylinder body, the first rotating member including a first key receptacle, a driving pin coupled to the first rotating member and configured to rotate with rotation of the first rotating member and operable to rotate and move a latch between two positions including a door locked position and a door unlocked position, and a first locking device preventing rotation of the first rotating member with respect to the first cylinder body in the absence of an appropriate key, and allowing rotation of the first rotating member with respect to the first cylinder body upon the insertion of an appropriate key in the first key receptacle, wherein said cylinder housing is adapted for at least 360°
- the door lock assembly allows, when arranged at a door, two different exterior locking devices to be used to operate the latch, e.g. to lock and unlock the door.
- two different opening devices may be used to control the latch.
- a first opening device such as a key
- a second opening device may operate the second locking device.
- the door lock assembly is possible to arrange at a door having an existing locking mechanism which is operable with an existing exterior locking device, such as a locking cylinder, using an existing key.
- the door lock assembly is useful to arrange at any door to which more than one person should have access, without having to exchange the existing key.
- the door lock assembly may be installed at a front door at households needing home help service.
- the door lock assembly allows residents, utilizing home help service, to keep their original door keys and to continue locking and unlocking their doors using their original keys.
- the door lock assembly also permits access for the home help service firm, but instead of changing the original door lock, the door lock assembly is arranged to cooperate with the existing door lock mechanism.
- the cylinder housing is exchanged to the door lock assembly according to the invention, and the original lock cylinder is reused as a first cylinder body with first rotating member.
- the home help service firm may thereby use one opening mechanism to all households which are provided with the door locking assembly, without having to use a master key system.
- the second locking device Upon operation of the driving pin by rotating the cylinder housing, the second locking device, which is situated at least partly within the cylinder housing, is rotated with the cylinder housing.
- the second locking device is thus mounted to the cylinder housing in such a manner that it follows rotational movement of the cylinder housing.
- This provides for a less complex and/or more compact solution than the one provided in EP 2 927 399, in which only the cylinder body itself is rotated upon operation of the latch using the second opening device.
- Yet another advantage is that a solution having fewer parts, and especially fewer individually moving parts, may be achieved.
- a door lock assembly that is easier to mount at a door may be provided.
- a door lock assembly may work for a variety of different lock cylinder shapes, including circular lock cylinders, and/or may offer several mounting alternatives, which provides for a very flexible solution.
- the second locking device comprises a rotatable locking member and preferably a semi-circular rotatable locking member.
- said rotatable locking member in said blocking state is arranged to interact with the wall of a recess formed in said mounting body.
- said second locking device comprises a second cylinder body, a second rotating member located at least partially within said second cylinder body and selectively rotatable with respect to the second cylinder body, the second rotating member including a second key receptacle, a blocking member coupled to said second rotating member and configured to move with rotation of the second rotating member and operable to move between said first blocking state and said second released state, and wherein said second locking device prevents rotation of the second rotating member with respect to the second cylinder body in the absence of an appropriate key, and allows rotation of the second rotating member with respect to the second cylinder body upon the insertion of an appropriate key in the second key receptacle.
- the door lock assembly comprises an axial movement limiting device arranged to prevent axial movement of the cylinder housing relative to the mounting body.
- the axial movement limiting device may comprise at least two balls received in a radial groove formed in the mounting body.
- At least one member preferably said cylinder housing and/or said second cylinder body, is adapted for axial movement in respect to said mounting body, and the second locking device in said released state allows axial movement of said axially movable member such that said axially movable member is axially movable from the interior of said mounting body to enable rotation of said cylinder housing in relation to said mounting body together with the cylinder body and the rotating member to cause the driving pin to rotate between said door locked position and said door unlocked position.
- at least one of said mounting body and said cylinder housing is configured to prevent rotation of said cylinder housing within said mounting body. This embodiment enables a very robust solution with an outer surface of the cylinder housing surrounded by a portion of the mounting body, even in cases where the rotating member of the first locking device is located off center in the cylinder housing.
- said second locking device comprises an axially movable locking member.
- the door lock assembly comprises an axial movement limiting device arranged to limit axial movement of the cylinder housing relative to the mounting body.
- the axial movement limiting device allows a predetermined axial movement of at least one member of the door lock assembly.
- At least one of said first locking device and said second locking device comprises a digital key locking device.

- a cylinder housing 17 is coupled to the mounting body 15.
- the cylinder housing 17 is coupled to the mounting body 15 by means of an axial bearing device such that the cylinder housing 17 is adapted for at least 360° rotation in both directions with respect to the mounting body 15.
- the axial bearing device which will be described in more detail later with reference to Fig.
- 3H comprises recesses (not shown here) formed in the cylinder housing 17, balls 20 and a radial groove 22 formed in the mounting body 15. An end portion 17a of the cylinder housing 17 is thus received in the mounting body 15.
- a first cylinder body 19 is arranged.
- the first cylinder body 19 is securely attached to said cylinder housing 17 by means of four screws 21.
- a first rotating member 23 is arranged.
- the first rotating member 23 has a first key receptacle 25 and is selectively rotatable with respect to the first cylinder body 19 upon insertion of an appropriate key in the first key receptacle 25.

- a driving member 27 is coupled to the first rotating member 23 and configured to rotate with rotation of the first rotating member 23.
- the driving member 27 is then coupled to a recess 29 of the locking mechanism 3 and by rotating between two positions, the driving member 27 urges the second latch 14 to expel from the lock housing 13 to engage the striking plate arranged in the door frame to lock the door, or urges the second latch 14 to withdraw into the lock housing 13 to unlock the door 2.
- the lock assembly 1 further comprises a second cylinder body 31 which may be arranged at least partly in the cylinder housing 17.
- a second rotating member 33 is arranged at least partly within the second cylinder body 31.
- the second rotating member 33 has a second key receptacle 35 and is selectively rotatable within respect to the second cylinder body 31 upon insertion of an appropriate key in the second key receptacle 35.
- a second locking device 31 , 33 prevents rotation of the second rotating member 33 with respect to the second cylinder body 31 and allows rotation of the second rotating member 33 with respect to the second cylinder body 31 between a blocking state and a released state upon insertion of an appropriate key in the key receptacle 35.
- a blocking member in the form of semi-circular blocking disc 37, is coupled to the second rotating member 33 in such a way that it rotates with rotation of the second rotating member 33.
- the blocking disc 37 is arranged to, when the second rotating member 33 assumes a blocking state, interact with the wall 39a of a stop recess 39 formed in the mounting body 15, and to, when the second rotating member 33 assumes a released state, not interact with the wall 39a of the stop recess 39.
- the blocking disc 37 is thus received in the stop recess 39 formed in the mounting body 15. As long as the blocking disc 37 is kept in the stop recess 39, rotation of the cylinder housing 17 is thereby prevented.
- the blocking disc 37 When the blocking disc 37 is rotated out from the stop recess 39, rotation of the cylinder housing 17 with respect to the mounting body 15 is allowed.
- the blocking disc 37 is thus movable between a blocking position, in which it prevents rotation of the cylinder housing 17, and a non-blocking position, in which it allows rotation of the cylinder housing 17.
- the cylinder housing 17 is prevented for rotational movement, i.e. in a first blocking state, and when the blocking disc 37 is rotated out from interaction with the wall 39a of the block recess 39 of the mounting body 15, the cylinder housing 17 is released for rotational movement, i.e. in a released state. Then, the cylinder housing 17 is rotatable and free to rotate at least 360° in both directions with respect to the mounting body 15.
- the first cylinder body 19, first rotating member 23, first key receptacle 25 and the appropriate key thereto may comprise a mechanical key system or a digital key system.

- the cylinder housing 17 is axially locked with respect to the mounting body 15.
- a first ball 20 is inserted through an insertion hole 26 formed in the mounting body 15 and into a recess 28 formed in the end portion 17a of the cylinder housing 17, as illustrated by arrow B in Fig. 3C.
- the cylinder housing 17 is rotated relative the mounting body 15 until the recess 28 is aligned with the insertion hole 26.
- the cylinder housing 17 is rotated 90°, as illustrated by arrow C in Fig. 3D, to allow a second ball 20 to be inserted into a recess 28 through the insertion hole 26, as illustrated by arrow D in Fig. 3E.
- the door lock assembly 1 is mounted to the door 2 by securely attaching the mounting body 15 to the door 2 by means of screws 16, as illustrated in Fig 3G.
- the mounting body 15 is mounted with the insertion hole 26 facing upwards to secure that a ball 20 does not fall out from a recess 28 upon rotation of the cylinder housing 17 with respect to the mounting body 15.
- Fig. 3H shows the door lock assembly 1 mounted to the door 2.
- the axial bearing device 20, 22, 28 prevents the cylinder housing 17 from axial movement.
- Flence only rotational movement of the cylinder housing 17 with respect to the mounting body 15 may be allowed.
- the axial bearing device, that couples the cylinder housing 17 to the mounting body 15, allows free rotation, in both directions and unlimited number of turns, of the cylinder housing 17 with respect to the mounting body 15, whereas it prevents axial movement of the cylinder housing 17 relative to the mounting body 15.
- the axial bearing device 20, 22, 28 thus forms an axial movement limiting device arranged to prevent axial movement of the cylinder housing 17 in relation to the mounting body 15.
- Fig. 4A illustrates the second locking device 31 , 33, 37 in a blocking state.
- the blocking disc 37 is situated so as to interact with the wall 39a of the stop recess 39 formed in the mounting body 15 and thereby prevent the cylinder housing 17 from being rotated.
- the second rotating member 33 may be rotated with respect to the second cylinder body 31 , as illustrated by arrow F in Fig. 4B.
- the blocking disc 37 is rotated out of the stop recess 39 to a non-blocking position, as illustrated by arrow G in Fig. 4B.
- the blocking disc 37 does not interact with the wall 39a of the stop recess 39, which enables rotation of the cylinder housing 17, as illustrated by arrows FI and I in Fig. 4C and Fig. 4D, respectively.
- the rotation of the cylinder housing 17 causes the driving member 27 to rotate and finally, after a full turn of rotation, to urge the second latch 14 to withdraw into the lock housing 13, as illustrated by arrow J in Fig. 4E, to unlock the door 2.
- Rotation of the cylinder housing 17 in the other direction causes the driving member 27 to urge the second latch 14 to expel from the lock housing 13 to engage the striking plate arranged in the door frame to lock the door 2.
- Fig. 5 shows a door lock assembly 101 according to a second embodiment in an exploded view to disclose the different parts thereof.
- the door lock assembly 101 has a mounting body 115, which is adapted for secure attachment to a door 102.
- a cylinder housing 117 is coupled to the mounting body 115.
- At least partially within said cylinder housing 117 a first cylinder body 119 is arranged.
- the cylinder body 119 is securely attached to the cylinder housing 117 by means of screws (not shown).
- a first rotating member 123 is arranged.
- the first rotating member 123 has a first key receptacle 125 and is selectively rotatable with respect to the first cylinder body 119 upon insertion of an appropriate key in the first key receptacle 125. In absence of an appropriate key, a first locking device 119, 123 prevents rotation of the first rotating member 123 with respect to the first cylinder body 119.
- a driving member 127 is coupled to the first rotating member 123 and configured to rotate with rotation of the first rotating member 123.
- the driving member 127 is then coupled to a recess 129 of the locking mechanism 103 and by rotating between two positions, the driving member 127 urges a latch 114 to expel from the lock housing 113 to engage the striking plate arranged in the door frame to lock the door, or urges the latch 114 to withdraw into the lock housing 113 to unlock the door 102.
- the lock assembly 101 further comprises a second cylinder body 131 which may be arranged at least partly within the cylinder housing 117.
- a second rotating member 133 is arranged at least partly within the second cylinder body 131.
- the second rotating member 133 has a second key receptacle 135 and is selectively rotatable within respect to the second cylinder body 131 upon insertion of an appropriate key in the second key receptacle 135.
- a second locking device 131 , 133 prevents rotation of the second rotating member 133 with respect to the second cylinder body 131 and allows rotation of the second rotating member 133 with respect to the second cylinder body 131 between a blocking state and a released state upon insertion of an appropriate key in the key receptacle 135.
- a blocking member in the form of semi-circular blocking disc 137, is coupled to the second part 133b of the second rotating member 133 in such a way that it rotates with rotation of the second rotating member 133.
- the second part 133b of the second rotating member 133 is arranged to rotate with the first part 133a of the rotating member 133.
- the mounting body 115 has an aperture 161 adapted to receive the blocking member 137 of the second rotating member 133.
- Fig. 6A shows the door lock assembly 101 in a cross-sectional view to disclose further parts thereof.
- the mounting body 115 has a stop surface 163 configured to interact with the blocking member 137 of the second rotating member 133.
- the cylinder housing 117 is coupled to the mounting body 115 by means of an axial bearing device such that the cylinder housing 117 is adapted for at least 360° rotation in both directions with respect to the mounting body 115.
- the axial bearing device comprises recesses 128 formed in the cylinder housing 117, balls 120 and a radial groove 122 formed in the mounting body 115.
- the radial groove 122 has a width that is configured to allow a certain axial movement of the cylinder housing 117 with respect to the mounting body 115.
- the recesses 128, the radial groove 122 and the balls 120 thus together form an axial movement limiting device that limit axial movement of the cylinder housing 117.
- the driving member 127 comprises two parts 165, 167 that are telescopically related to each other.
- a first part 165 of the driving member 127 is provided with a projection 169 configured to be received in a recess 129 of the locking mechanism 103.
- a spring 171 is arranged between the two parts 165, 167 of the driving member 127 to maintain the projection 169 in the recess 129 upon axial movement of the cylinder housing 117.
- the spring 171 also serves to expel the cylinder housing 117 from the interior of the mounting body 115 when the blocking member 137 is rotated to a non-blocking position.
- An anti-rotation pin 173 is arranged to prevent that the two parts 165, 167 of the driving member 127 rotate in relation to each other upon rotation of the cylinder housing 117.
- the anti-rotation pin 173 is received in a recess partly formed in the first part 165 of the driving member 127 and partly formed in the second part 167 of the driving member 127.
- FIG. 6A illustrates the second locking device 131 , 133 in a blocking state.
- the blocking disc 137 is situated so as to interact with the stop surface 163 formed in the mounting body 115 and thereby prevent the cylinder housing 117 from axial movement with respect to the mounting body 115.
- an outer portion 115a of the mounting body 115 prevents the cylinder housing 117 from being rotated, since the rotating member 123 is situated off center in the cylinder housing 117.
- the blocking disc 137 does not interact with the stop surface 163 of the mounting body 115 and may thus be moved out through the aperture 161 , which enables axial movement of the cylinder housing 117.
- the cylinder housing 117 will then expel from the interior of the outer portion 115a of the mounting body 115 under the action of the spring 171 , as illustrated by arrows N and 0 in Fig. 6C.
- the axial movement limiting device which comprises the recesses 128, the radial groove 122 and the balls 120, allows the cylinder housing 117 to be moved axially out of the outer portion 115a of the mounting body 115 a predetermined distance to the position illustrated in Fig. 6C. Then, the cylinder housing 117 is rotatable and may be rotated freely with respect to the mounting body 115, as illustrated by arrow P in Fig. 6D. Rotation of the cylinder housing 117 causes the driving member 127 to rotate and, after a full turn of rotation, to urge the latch 114 to withdraw into the lock housing 113 to unlock the door 102.
- Rotation of the cylinder housing 117 in the other direction causes the driving member 127 to urge the second latch 114 to expel from the lock housing 113 to engage the striking plate arranged in the door frame to lock the door 102.
