Description

According to the preamble of claim 1, the invention relates to a variable-length protective cover which has at least one fold element with a plurality of folds, the fold element having folds formed at regular intervals as intermediate folds, which consist of two fold layers lying flat on top of one another of a fold with a bend point and on which lamella elements are fixed, which are L-shaped in cross section, with one leg being fixed to the intermediate fold, while the legs overlap telescopically.

Such a protective cover is from a special embodiment DE 10 2016 103 985 A1 known. There the slats are attached between the pocket-like fold layers of the shortened intermediate folds of the fold element, ie the slats also overlap on the side of the protective cover on which the regular folds of the fold element are arranged, while the intermediate folds protrude freely outwards. This embodiment already makes it possible to securely attach the slats directly to the folding element. However, the arrangement in the pockets then requires more complex production of the protective cover. On the one hand, the intermediate folds can usually only be fully formed then if the slats are also inserted and fixed in the resulting pockets. On the other hand, it is complex to make the intermediate folds shortened, since the fold element cannot be used in the usual standard fold. Depending on the application, it can also be unfortunate that the intermediate folds protrude outwards, which is visually perceived as disadvantageous and can also make cleaning more difficult. One area of application for such protective covers is machine tools in which the access openings to work areas change dynamically during operation. The protective covers prevent flying chips and escaping cutting fluid from endangering the environment.

From the JP2008-12639A a variable-length protective cover is known, in which the attachment takes place on rigid intermediate elements, to which sections of folds of the fold element as well as the legs of slats are attached.

The DE 20 2009 006 306 U1 shows a protective cover with a bellows with rigid intermediate elements, to which cantilevered slats are attached on both sides, which help to reduce the deflection of the curtain.

The DE 16 66 445 U shows two bellows elements without protective slats, which are connected to each other at the front.

The EP 1 842 620 A1 shows a bellows in which sections of the folds are connected to intermediate wall elements.

The DE 20 2017 004 433 U1 shows a protective device having a plurality of slats and a shielding member made of elastic fabric attached to the slats in connecting end portions.

The object of the invention is to create a protective cover that can cover a maximum stroke with a certain number of slats.

Ausgestaltungen sind Gegenstand der Ansprüche 2 bis 9.Main features of the invention are set out in the characterizing part of claim 1. Refinements are the subject of claims 2 to 9.

The object is achieved according to the invention in that regular folds (14) are formed between the intermediate folds (16) and the intermediate folds (16) have the same edge length as the remaining regular folds of the fold element. This has the advantage that standard folds of the fold element can be used, in which all folds are formed the same in the initial state. The intermediate folds are then made, by connecting certain fold layers, preferably the adjacent fold layers of every second fold of the folded starting material, flat to one another.

It has been shown that this arrangement allows the extension length of the fold element and thus of the entire protective cover to be maximized, since the regular folds of the curtain can practically be unfolded to their stretched position without this restricting operational safety. Overall, even without additional frame or support elements, there is a high level of stability due to the slats overlapping on one side of the protective cover and the regular folds on the other side, with the slats and the regular folds of the fold element being connected by the intermediate folds that act like reinforcing transverse ribs . It is also advantageous that the regular folds lie at the ends of the intermediate folds opposite the attachment points of the slats, so that moments arising from the resiliently overlapping slats can be better absorbed within the protective cover.

The connection can preferably be carried out in such a way that the fold layers of the intermediate folds are sewn, glued, welded or riveted together.

In the event that the protective cover does not have sufficient inherent rigidity or the provision of sliding elements for interaction with guide tracks, which can be provided at the edges of the opening to a working space of a machine tool, it is provided in a further embodiment of the invention that at the intermediate folds Frame elements are attached.

The connection of the slat elements or of any existing frame or support elements to the pleated element can be achieved in such a way that the slat elements and/or the frame elements are glued, riveted, clipped, riveted or welded to the pleated element in the area of the bends at the intermediate folds.

In a preferred embodiment it is provided that the material of the at least one fold element is formed in one or more layers from fabric and/or plastics and/or mixed forms of fabrics and plastics.

The exact selection depends on the requirements of the application, e.g. dynamic stress or use in an aggressive environment.

In a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the fold element is designed as a bellows which extends over the entire surface of the protective cover.

This solution has the advantage that the lamella elements facing a working space are completely covered from the outside by the bellows. This additionally protects the environment against escaping substances, and in order to further improve this property it is particularly preferred that the fold element is free of openings or holes.

In a still further preferred embodiment of the invention, the protective element is designed without the otherwise usual pull-out safeguards, which protect the lamella elements from being pulled apart excessively, with the regular folds of the fold element acting as a pull-out limiter in the maximum extended position of the protective cover. This reduces the number of parts and reduces the weight of the protective cover, which is an advantage under high dynamic loads. The regular folds fold back together even after maximum stretching due to the elastic properties of the material when the length of the protective cover is shortened. By utilizing the maximum stretchability of the regular folds, the protective cover can be designed overall with a minimum number of folds and intermediate folds, so that not only the weight but also the manufacturing costs can be minimized.

An embodiment of the invention has proven to be particularly useful, in which every second fold of the fold element is designed as an intermediate fold. However, embodiments are also possible in which only every third or fourth fold is designed as an intermediate fold.

In Fig. 1 a variable-length protective cover 10 is shown, as used to cover work spaces of machine tools (not shown). The length of the protective cover 10 can vary between being maximally compressed and maximally pulled apart Adjust position. This makes it possible to arrange them between parts that move relative to one another during operation of the machine tool. These movements can be highly dynamic.

The protective cover 10 has a fold element 12 which extends over its entire length and which, in the exemplary embodiment, consists of a PP material. Like in particular Fig. 2 can be clearly seen, in the originally evenly folded fold element 12, the fold layers of every second fold are fastened flat to one another to form intermediate folds 16, which can be done by stitching (sewing), gluing, riveting or welding. This creates kinks 18 at which the two fold layers of the intermediate folds 16 are angled at 180° to one another. The fold element 12 can also be designed without openings over its entire length in the area of the intermediate folds, that is, it offers a hermetic closure between two end strips 22, 24, to which the two end fold layers 26 of the fold element 12 are fixed with the aid of rivet strips 27. Regular folds 14 are formed between the intermediate folds 16, which unfold when the protective element is pulled apart, whereby in the maximally unfolded, ie stretched, state they act as a pull-out safeguard and limit the maximum distance between the intermediate folds 16 from one another.

Towards the working space of the machine tool, lamella elements 20 made of metal or plastic overlap in a scale/telescopic manner and have a substantially L-shaped cross section. Short legs 28 serve to fasten the lamella elements 20 to the free ends of the intermediate folds 16 in the area of the kinks 18, while the legs 30 angled in the direction of extension of the protective element 10 have a length that is greater than the distance between two intermediate folds 16 when extended to the maximum Condition of the fold element 12. This ensures that the lamella elements 20 overlap with their legs 30 like scales, so that the lamella elements 20 can be pulled apart or pushed together telescopically. This means that the lamella elements 20 can also adapt flexibly to the change in length of the protective element 10. The lamella elements 20 have a transition region 32 between the short legs 28 and the long legs 30 of the lamella element 20 (see also Fig. 6 ), which is provided with recesses 34 through which fastening clips (not shown) can be attached to the short legs 28. These clips cling to the fold element material from both sides, with openings 36 for the teeth of the fastening clips being made in the short legs 28.

The attachment of the slat elements 20 to the intermediate folds can also be solved in another way, for example by stitching the short legs 28 with the intermediate folds 16. Gluing is also possible; in the case of plastic slats, welding is also conceivable.

In Fig. 1 Two mounting strips 38 can still be seen, but they are only used to mount the lamella elements 20 on the intermediate folds 16 and are removed before installing the protective cover in a machine tool.
