Definitions
- the invention relates to a mat for therapeutic purposes according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Mats of the generic type are used in movement therapy and are used to carry out movement exercises on the exercise area formed by the top of the mat.
- the underside of the generic mats is arranged on a surface, for example a floor, so that a firm hold is provided during therapeutic exercises.
- the generic mats are made of an elastically deformable material, so that the mat material can be compressed in the loaded contact area by the weight of the user practicing on the exercise area.
- the elastic deformation of the material improves the comfort of use for the user.
- the elastically deformable material serves to distribute pressure as evenly as possible in the loaded contact area. When the mat is used outdoors, unevenness in the surface is largely compensated for, so that, for example, smaller stones on the top of the mat are no longer noticeable to the user.
- the disadvantage of using these relatively hard materials for the production of the known mats is that the mat is only formed relatively little in the loaded contact area. Due to this slight elastic deformation of the top of the mat, during certain therapeutic exercises, the horizontal forces that occur can largely only be transferred to the surface of the mat in a frictional manner, whereas an at least partial positive connection between the corresponding part of the human body, for example the palm of the hand, knee or foot , and the molded area of the mat material is excluded. Since, in the case of known mats, the introduction of horizontal forces largely occurs exclusively through friction, the horizontal forces that can be transmitted are severely limited. If these frictionally transferable maximum horizontal forces are exceeded during certain exercises, there is an increased risk of injury as the user slides over the surface of the mat with the contact surfaces of his body. Overall, the known mats for certain exercises do not provide sufficient horizontal support to be able to carry out the exercises with a sufficient feeling of safety.
- the FR 2 980 716 A1 discloses a mat suitable for therapeutic purposes with three layers of material, each layer of material having a different elastic property.
- the lower material layer is designed to be anti-slip, can be arranged on the base and has the highest density.
- the upper layer of material forms the practice area and has the lowest material density.
- the US 2008/214361 A1 discloses a mat for therapeutic purposes having an additional padded area in appropriate locations which serves to increase user comfort, protect against injury and/or reduce stress on body parts that bear significant weight. This means that a user of this mat can rest their knees or elbows on the padded area, with the sensitive joint areas reliably protected due to the additional padding.
- the additionally padded area can be arranged on, on or between the two layers of the mat and designed to be displaceable.
- the mat according to the invention is based on the basic idea that it is made in multiple layers from at least two layers of material, the two layers of material having different elastic properties.
- the upper layer of material, which forms the exercise surface consists of a softer material than the lower layer of material, which is placed on the base.
- the elastic properties of the lower material layer are chosen so that they support the strong compressibility of the upper material layer and so the desired pressure distribution effect can be achieved. Due to the invention Due to the very high elasticity and combination of material layers provided, the mat can be molded in much more strongly than is possible with the mats known from the prior art. This greater compressibility results in a positive connection between the contact surface of the exerciser, for example the palm of the hand, knee or foot, and the top of the exercise surface in the loaded contact area.
- the upper material layer can form more strongly in the loaded contact area than is possible with the mats known from the prior art.
- This stronger compression of the upper layer of material results in a positive connection between the contact surface of the exerciser, for example the palm of the hand or foot, and the top of the exercise surface in the loaded contact area. Due to this positive connection between the user and the mat, correspondingly higher horizontal forces can be transferred to the top of the upper material layer when carrying out exercises. The risk of slipping and the associated risk of injury when performing certain exercises is therefore significantly reduced or completely eliminated.
- the mat according to the invention also makes it possible for older people and people with limited mobility to move without fear and to carry out healing movement exercises. Due to the possibility of transmitting higher horizontal forces, suitable movement exercises, especially gentle joint mobilization, strengthen and stretch the muscles and tendons.
- the elasticity properties of the upper and lower material layers are such that their combination ensures the desired pressure distribution effect and protection against injury in the event of strong point loads and, on the other hand, the greater softness of the upper material layer enables an optimal positive fit between the contact surfaces of the practitioner's body.
- the lower material layer has a bulk density of 32 to 45 kg/m 3 and a compression hardness of 3.0 to 5.0 kPa and a tensile strength of > 90 kPa and an elongation at break of > 100% and has a compression set resistance of ⁇ 7%.
- the upper material layer in the contact area which is predominantly loaded in the horizontal direction, can be compressed with a compression of at least 70% of the initial thickness, in particular with a compression of at least 90% of the initial thickness.
- a typical contact surface size for example the size of a hand, knee or foot
- a typical body weight of, for example, a maximum of 80 kg With the resulting surface pressure due to the body weight of 80 kg in the area of the palm or foot, the upper layer of material should be able to be compressed by at least 70% of the initial thickness, preferably by at least 90% of the initial thickness.
- a viscoelastic polyurethane foam can preferably be used to produce the upper material layer.
- the initial thickness of the upper material layer should preferably be in the range between 3 and 8 cm.
- the initial thickness of the lower material layer should preferably be in the range between 1.5 and 6 cm.
- Both material layers of the mat according to the invention are structurally connected to one another is fundamentally arbitrary. Both material layers should preferably be connected to one another over the surface, in particular glued together over the entire surface. In order to enable older users and users with severe mobility restrictions to carry out suitable exercises without fear on the mat according to the invention, it should have an exercise area that does not fall below a certain size. In order to enable users to perform the exercises without the guidance of a therapist, the exercise area of the mat should have an area of at least 3.2 m 2 . It is preferred if the mat has a practice area of 4.0 square meters to 4.2 square meters. For use in the field of physiotherapy or rehabilitation, mats with a smaller exercise area, for example measuring 1 x 2 m, are also conceivable, for example for so-called isolated movement exercises, for example only involving the hip or one leg.
- the protective cover element is just large enough that it can be arranged flat between the underside of the mat and the base, so that direct contact between the underside of the mat and the base is avoided by the protective cover element. Instead, the outside of the protective cover element comes into contact with the dirty surface. If the mat is to be stowed away again after carrying out the exercise, the mat can be rolled up, with the protective cover element itself initially remaining flat on the base due to its attachment to only one side edge of the mat. Only when the mat itself is completely rolled up and, if necessary, suitably fixed is the protective cover element attached to the circumference of the rolled up mat, so that the protective cover element encompasses the circumference of the rolled up mat.
- the rolled up mat can then be permanently fixed in the protective cover element.
- the protective cover element is made of a washable material.
- a Stiffening element is arranged. Rolling up the mat is made significantly easier by the stiffening element. After the mat has been rolled out, the stiffening element ensures that the mat lies flat on the base.
- the geometric cross section of the stiffening elements can be circular, oval, square, rectangular or trapezoidal.
- the surface structure of the stiffening elements can be smooth, longitudinally or transversely grooved or even rough.
- the stiffening elements can be made from wood, plastic or metal.
- the stiffening element extends over the entire length of the corresponding side edge of the mat.
- the stiffening element can be divided along its length. Before using the mat for the first time, the user can then put the different sections of the stiffening element together, for example plug them together.
- the manner in which the stiffening elements are attached to the mat is basically arbitrary. If a protective film element is provided on the mat to protect against contamination, the fastening of the stiffening elements can be ensured in a simple manner by forming a pocket for one stiffening element on the corresponding side edges of the protective cover element. The stiffening element can then be inserted into these pockets of the protective element and fixed accordingly.
- the pocket of the protective cover element has at least one recess for receiving the stiffening element. This recess then makes it possible for the user to grasp the stiffening element from the outside, so that the stiffening element can also serve as a handle for carrying the mat.
- the underside of the mat or the outside of the protective cover element is equipped with an anti-slip coating.
- the mat 01 consists of two layers of material 05 and 06, which are glued together flat.
- the upper material layer 05 forms the training area 03 with its upper side 02, whereas the lower material layer 06 also forms its underside can be placed on a surface, for example a floor.
- the upper material layer 05 is made of a softer, elastically deformable material than the lower material layer 06.
- the upper material layer 05 has an initial thickness of 3 to 8 cm in the unloaded state, whereas the lower material layer 06 has an initial thickness of 1.5 to 6 cm in the unloaded state.
- the practice area 03 has an area of > 3.2 m 2 .
- Fig. 2 shows the mat 01 while a user 04 is carrying out a first therapeutic exercise. In this exercise, almost exclusively vertical forces 07 are transmitted in the contact area between the user 04 and the mat 01, so that the two material layers 05 and 06 are vertically compressed.
- Fig. 3 shows the user 04 performing a second therapeutic exercise on the mat 01.
- this second therapeutic exercise in addition to vertical forces 07, horizontal forces 08 in particular are transmitted in the contact area between the user 04 and the surface of the mat 01.
- Fig. 4 shows a cross section of the mat 01 with the two material layers 05 and 06 when the user 04 is carrying out a therapeutic exercise Fig. 3 in an enlarged section in the horizontally loaded contact area of the right hand 09. From the hand 09 - as already described - both vertical forces 07 and, above all, horizontal forces 08 are transmitted to the mat 01.
- the upper material layer 05 can be compressed in combination with the lower material layer by the forces acting predominantly in the horizontal direction in the horizontally loaded contact area 10 with a compression of at least 70% of the initial thickness, in particular with a compression of at least 90% of the initial thickness.
- Fig. 7 shows the mat 01 from below, with the protective cover element 12 not being shown. You can see the Velcro straps 16 and the Velcro straps 15 of the four Velcro fasteners 14 in the open state.
- pockets 20 and 21 are provided in the area of the side edges 11 and 17, into which the stiffening elements 18 and 19 are inserted. The pockets 20 and 21 enclose the stiffening elements 18 and 19 on all sides, for which purpose the pockets 20 and 21 are suitably sewn.
- the pocket 21 has three recesses 22 through which the stiffening element 19 in the pocket 21 can be gripped by hand from the outside, so that the stiffening element 19 can also serve as a carrying aid for carrying the rolled-up mat 01.
- the middle recess 22 can also be replaced by two laterally offset recesses in order to avoid gripping around the joints on the stiffening element 19.

Description
The invention relates to a mat for therapeutic purposes according to the preamble of claim 1. Mats of the generic type are used in movement therapy and are used to carry out movement exercises on the exercise area formed by the top of the mat. The underside of the generic mats is arranged on a surface, for example a floor, so that a firm hold is provided during therapeutic exercises. Furthermore, the generic mats are made of an elastically deformable material, so that the mat material can be compressed in the loaded contact area by the weight of the user practicing on the exercise area. The elastic deformation of the material improves the comfort of use for the user. Furthermore, the elastically deformable material serves to distribute pressure as evenly as possible in the loaded contact area. When the mat is used outdoors, unevenness in the surface is largely compensated for, so that, for example, smaller stones on the top of the mat are no longer noticeable to the user.
When choosing the elastic properties of the elastically deformable material for producing the mat, this is a main focus It is important that the elastically deformable material in the loaded contact area is not compressed too much by the weight of the user, otherwise the desired pressure distribution effect is no longer guaranteed if the mat material is compressed too much. In this respect, when using generic mats, relatively hard foams are usually used in order to reliably exclude complete compression of the mat in the loaded contact area.
The disadvantage of using these relatively hard materials for the production of the known mats is that the mat is only formed relatively little in the loaded contact area.

Based on this prior art, it is therefore the object of the present invention to propose a new mat for therapeutic purposes which avoids the described problems of the therapeutic mats known from the prior art.
This task is solved by a mat according to the teaching of claim 1.
Vorteilhafte Ausführungsformen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the subclaims.
The mat according to the invention is based on the basic idea that it is made in multiple layers from at least two layers of material, the two layers of material having different elastic properties. The upper layer of material, which forms the exercise surface, consists of a softer material than the lower layer of material, which is placed on the base. The elastic properties of the lower material layer are chosen so that they support the strong compressibility of the upper material layer and so the desired pressure distribution effect can be achieved.
Due to the higher elasticity of the upper material layer provided according to the invention, the upper material layer can form more strongly in the loaded contact area than is possible with the mats known from the prior art. This stronger compression of the upper layer of material results in a positive connection between the contact surface of the exerciser, for example the palm of the hand or foot, and the top of the exercise surface in the loaded contact area. Due to this positive connection between the user and the mat, correspondingly higher horizontal forces can be transferred to the top of the upper material layer when carrying out exercises. The risk of slipping and the associated risk of injury when performing certain exercises is therefore significantly reduced or completely eliminated. The mat according to the invention also makes it possible for older people and people with limited mobility to move without fear and to carry out healing movement exercises. Due to the possibility of transmitting higher horizontal forces, suitable movement exercises, especially gentle joint mobilization, strengthen and stretch the muscles and tendons.
The elasticity properties of the upper and lower material layers are such that their combination ensures the desired pressure distribution effect and protection against injury in the event of strong point loads and, on the other hand, the greater softness of the upper material layer enables an optimal positive fit between the contact surfaces of the practitioner's body.
With regard to the technical specification of the elastic properties of the upper material layer, it is essential to the invention that the upper material layer has a bulk density of 43 to 50 kg/m 3 and a compression hardness of 1 to 4 kPa and a tensile strength of > 30 kPa and an elongation at break of > 100 % and a compression set resistance of <7%.
With regard to the technical specification, it is essential to the invention that the lower material layer has a bulk density of 32 to 45 kg/m 3 and a compression hardness of 3.0 to 5.0 kPa and a tensile strength of > 90 kPa and an elongation at break of > 100% and has a compression set resistance of <7%.
With regard to an optimal positive fit, it is particularly advantageous if the upper material layer in the contact area, which is predominantly loaded in the horizontal direction, can be compressed with a compression of at least 70% of the initial thickness, in particular with a compression of at least 90% of the initial thickness. It is assumed that there is a load in the horizontally loaded contact area with a typical contact surface size, for example the size of a hand, knee or foot, and a typical body weight of, for example, a maximum of 80 kg. With the resulting surface pressure due to the body weight of 80 kg in the area of the palm or foot, the upper layer of material should be able to be compressed by at least 70% of the initial thickness, preferably by at least 90% of the initial thickness.
In order to achieve the desired elastic properties of the upper material layer, a viscoelastic polyurethane foam can preferably be used to produce the upper material layer.
The initial thickness of the upper material layer should preferably be in the range between 3 and 8 cm.
With regard to optimized pressure distribution and damping, it is particularly advantageous if the lower material layer can be compressed under the contact area of the upper material layer, which is predominantly loaded in the horizontal direction, with a compression of a maximum of 60% of the initial thickness, in particular with a compression of a maximum of 40% of the initial thickness is.
It is advantageous if the lower material layer is made of polyurethane foam, cork, rubber or natural rubber.
The initial thickness of the lower material layer should preferably be in the range between 1.5 and 6 cm.
The manner in which the two material layers of the mat according to the invention are structurally connected to one another is fundamentally arbitrary.
When using the mat to carry out suitable movement exercises, the mat is laid out flat on a surface, for example a floor. It is inevitable that the underside of the mat comes into contact with surfaces that have contamination, such as dust. This contact of the underside with a dirty surface can also lead to contamination of the top side of the mat, which forms the practice area, as soon as the mat is rolled up. When the mat is rolled up, the dirty underside of the mat comes into contact with the upper side, which forms the practice area. In order to prevent such unwanted contamination of the top side of the mat, it is particularly advantageous if a flat protective cover element is attached to a side edge of the mat. The protective cover element is just large enough that it can be arranged flat between the underside of the mat and the base, so that direct contact between the underside of the mat and the base is avoided by the protective cover element.
In order to fix the rolled-up mat with the comprehensive protective cover element in the rolled-up shape, it is advantageous if at least one closure member is provided on the outside of the protective cover element. With this closure element, for example a Velcro fastener, the rolled up mat can then be permanently fixed in the protective cover element.
In order to be able to easily clean the protective cover element if the outside is dirty, it is advantageous if the protective cover element is removably attached to the mat. To clean the protective cover element, it can then be removed from the mat and cleaned separately.
Again, with a view to easier cleaning, it is advantageous if the protective cover element is made of a washable material.
In order to be able to easily fix the rolled-up mat in the enveloping protective cover element, it is advantageous if the protective cover element is made of an at least slightly elastically stretchable material. In this respect, the enveloping protective cover element can then be stretched over the rolled-up mat and fixed in the elastically pre-stressed shape. For outdoor use, it is advantageous if the protective cover element is made of a dirt- and water-repellent material.
In order to simplify the rolling in and out of the mat and to ensure that the mat is laid out flatly after it has been rolled out, it is particularly advantageous if a Stiffening element is arranged. Rolling up the mat is made significantly easier by the stiffening element. After the mat has been rolled out, the stiffening element ensures that the mat lies flat on the base. For the design of the stiffening element, there is only the structural requirement that its stiffening in the direction of its longitudinal axis must be so large that the mat can be rolled up. The geometric cross section of the stiffening elements can be circular, oval, square, rectangular or trapezoidal. The surface structure of the stiffening elements can be smooth, longitudinally or transversely grooved or even rough. As materials for The stiffening elements can be made from wood, plastic or metal.
Particularly with regard to the flat laying of the rolled out mat, it is advantageous if the stiffening element extends over the entire length of the corresponding side edge of the mat. With a view to reducing the necessary shipping volume when shipping mats according to the invention, it is advantageous if the stiffening element can be divided along its length. Before using the mat for the first time, the user can then put the different sections of the stiffening element together, for example plug them together.
The manner in which the stiffening elements are attached to the mat is basically arbitrary.
According to a preferred embodiment, it is provided that the pocket of the protective cover element has at least one recess for receiving the stiffening element. This recess then makes it possible for the user to grasp the stiffening element from the outside, so that the stiffening element can also serve as a handle for carrying the mat.
In order to prevent the mat from slipping unintentionally on the surface, it is advantageous if the underside of the mat or the outside of the protective cover element is equipped with an anti-slip coating.

The fact that the
Due to the load due to the
Due to this positive fit, very high
The
The
The
