Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electronic cigarette product according to the preamble of claim 1.
- wick coil principle The majority of electronic cigarette products currently on the market are based on the so-called wick coil principle.
- a wick for example made of fiberglass, is partially wrapped with a heating coil and is in contact with a liquid reservoir. When the heating coil is heated, the liquid in the wick evaporates in the area of the heating coil. Due to the capillary effect, the evaporated liquid is pumped out of the liquid storage.
- Such an electronic cigarette is exemplary in the US 2016/0021930 A1 described.
- US 2016/007653 A1 discloses an electronic cigarette product according to the preamble of claim 1.
- US 2005/016550 A1 discloses an electronic cigarette product with an addition device based on a bubble jet process or a piezoelectric process.
- US 20141060554 A1 discloses an electronic cigarette product with a microheater containing a patterned electrically conductive layer.
- EP 0 845 220 A1 discloses an electronic cigarette product having an outlet head having a piezoelectric element and a ceramic heater.
- the object of the invention is to provide a safe, high quality and certifiable electronic cigarette product and a cartridge in which the described disadvantages of the potential risk of overheating and the associated pollutant emissions are avoided.
- the execution of at least essential parts of the addition device as a microsystem unit enables the complete decoupling of the liquid delivery or metering from its heating for the purpose of evaporation.
- Liquid is conveyed or injected into a chamber inside the addition device using microdosing using a free jet atomizer based on the inkjet or bubble jet principle.
- a precisely temperature-controlled heating element is provided at a distance and functionally separate from it as part of an evaporator.
- the temperature of the heating element can be set or regulated completely independently of the volume flow of the liquid. With a fixed temperature, the amount of liquid delivered and thus the amount of vapor/aerosol can be adjusted as desired.
- precise temperature control/regulation of the evaporator heating element overheating and the resulting pollutants, such as acrylic compounds, can be completely avoided.
- microsystem technology used according to the invention enables the micrometer-precise and precisely reproducible production of different electromechanical functional groups, including sensors and actuators, on a silicon substrate in a uniform manufacturing process. In this way, according to the invention, the product quality required for mass production and certifiability can be ensured.
- the atomizer and also the evaporator of the addition device are designed as a microsystem unit.
- the liquid tank and the addition device are arranged in a replaceable cartridge.
- the liquid tank is emptied, the entire cigarette product does not have to be used be disposed of, but only the empty cartridge needs to be replaced with a filled one.
- the addition device as part of the cartridge has the considerable advantage that a defined interface is created, which enables a leak-free replacement of the cartridge without complex sealing measures, since the microstructure of the microsystem technical unit can be sealed more easily or is even self-sealing due to the surface tension.
- the cartridge can advantageously comprise a data or information memory for storing information and/or parameters relating to the cartridge.
- the ratio of the largest extent of the microsystem technology unit to the average diameter of the essentially rod-shaped housing in the area of the addition device is less than 0.5 and more preferably less than 0.4 and even more preferably less than 0.3 and particularly advantageously less than 0 ,2.
- a compact design of the microsystem technology unit increases flexibility with regard to possible arrangements of the microsystem technology unit in the cigarette product or in the cartridge.
- the atomizer is a free-jet atomizer with a thermal or piezo actuator and a downstream nozzle.
- the atomizer can have an electrical preheating element and a preheating chamber for preheating the liquid entering the adding device from the liquid tank. It can also be beneficial be when a metallic part of the atomizer that contacts the liquid is connected to a direct electrical voltage in order to cause ionization of the atomized liquid.
- the heating output of the evaporator heating element can be controlled and/or regulated to a defined target temperature.
- the evaporator can comprise a piezo element coupled to the electrical heating element. The heating element vibrating due to the piezo excitation can lead to an improvement in the evaporation effect and/or the achievement of self-cleaning effects, ie prevention of burning or adhesions.
- different liquids from a plurality of liquid tanks can be atomized with a plurality of atomizers, with the atomizers preferably being assigned a corresponding plurality of evaporators and heating elements.
- an active ingredient can be specifically dosed into a base liquid.
- the heating output of the heating elements can be controlled and/or regulated individually to defined target temperatures, since this enables an adaptation and optimal selection of the respective heating temperature for each liquid.
- the liquid tank is particularly advantageous as a flexible bag. This ensures using simple means that the liquid tank can be completely emptied in any position and without leaks.
- At least one liquid storage device is provided in the form of a liquid-on-chip device.
- This technology which is also based on microsystem technology, makes it possible to store small amounts of liquid directly on a chip, comparable to a drop that is enclosed in a kind of blister and can be released through targeted activation.

Description
The present invention relates to an electronic cigarette product according to the preamble of
The delivery of liquid and the amount of vapor are inextricably linked via the wick. The evaporation performance determines the amount of steam; However, smokers often want a high amount of vapor to achieve a lasting smoking experience. As a result of the high, essentially system-related inhomogeneous temperature-liquid distribution required for this There is a possible risk of partial overheating and thus unwanted pollutant emissions. Another disadvantage of known electronic cigarettes is their susceptibility to leakage when air pressure fluctuates.
The object of the invention is to provide a safe, high quality and certifiable electronic cigarette product and a cartridge in which the described disadvantages of the potential risk of overheating and the associated pollutant emissions are avoided.
The invention solves this problem with the features of the independent claims. According to the invention, the execution of at least essential parts of the addition device as a microsystem unit enables the complete decoupling of the liquid delivery or metering from its heating for the purpose of evaporation. Liquid is conveyed or injected into a chamber inside the addition device using microdosing using a free jet atomizer based on the inkjet or bubble jet principle. A precisely temperature-controlled heating element is provided at a distance and functionally separate from it as part of an evaporator. The temperature of the heating element can be set or regulated completely independently of the volume flow of the liquid. With a fixed temperature, the amount of liquid delivered and thus the amount of vapor/aerosol can be adjusted as desired. Through precise temperature control/regulation of the evaporator heating element, overheating and the resulting pollutants, such as acrylic compounds, can be completely avoided.
The microsystem technology used according to the invention enables the micrometer-precise and precisely reproducible production of different electromechanical functional groups, including sensors and actuators, on a silicon substrate in a uniform manufacturing process. In this way, according to the invention, the product quality required for mass production and certifiability can be ensured. According to the invention, the atomizer and also the evaporator of the addition device are designed as a microsystem unit.
Preferably, the liquid tank and the addition device are arranged in a replaceable cartridge. This means that when the liquid tank is emptied, the entire cigarette product does not have to be used be disposed of, but only the empty cartridge needs to be replaced with a filled one. A significant part of the cigarette product, including the energy storage, can therefore be reused. The addition device as part of the cartridge has the considerable advantage that a defined interface is created, which enables a leak-free replacement of the cartridge without complex sealing measures, since the microstructure of the microsystem technical unit can be sealed more easily or is even self-sealing due to the surface tension.
The cartridge can advantageously comprise a data or information memory for storing information and/or parameters relating to the cartridge.
Preferably, the ratio of the largest extent of the microsystem technology unit to the average diameter of the essentially rod-shaped housing in the area of the addition device is less than 0.5 and more preferably less than 0.4 and even more preferably less than 0.3 and particularly advantageously less than 0 ,2. A compact design of the microsystem technology unit increases flexibility with regard to possible arrangements of the microsystem technology unit in the cigarette product or in the cartridge.
According to the invention, the atomizer is a free-jet atomizer with a thermal or piezo actuator and a downstream nozzle. In advantageous embodiments of the invention, the atomizer can have an electrical preheating element and a preheating chamber for preheating the liquid entering the adding device from the liquid tank. It can also be beneficial be when a metallic part of the atomizer that contacts the liquid is connected to a direct electrical voltage in order to cause ionization of the atomized liquid.
Preferably, the heating output of the evaporator heating element can be controlled and/or regulated to a defined target temperature. In advantageous embodiments, the evaporator can comprise a piezo element coupled to the electrical heating element. The heating element vibrating due to the piezo excitation can lead to an improvement in the evaporation effect and/or the achievement of self-cleaning effects, ie prevention of burning or adhesions.
In advantageous embodiments of the invention, different liquids from a plurality of liquid tanks can be atomized with a plurality of atomizers, with the atomizers preferably being assigned a corresponding plurality of evaporators and heating elements. In this way, for example, an active ingredient can be specifically dosed into a base liquid. In this case, it is particularly advantageous if the heating output of the heating elements can be controlled and/or regulated individually to defined target temperatures, since this enables an adaptation and optimal selection of the respective heating temperature for each liquid.
The liquid tank is particularly advantageous as a flexible bag. This ensures using simple means that the liquid tank can be completely emptied in any position and without leaks.
In an advantageous development of the invention, at least one liquid storage device is provided in the form of a liquid-on-chip device. This technology, which is also based on microsystem technology, makes it possible to store small amounts of liquid directly on a chip, comparable to a drop that is enclosed in a kind of blister and can be released through targeted activation. For example, a free-jet atomizer could be provided for atomizing a base liquid and the actual addition of flavors and/or active ingredients could take place via a liquid-on-chip device.
In practical embodiments of the invention, a plurality of atomizers can be arranged in the addition device, particularly in matrix or array form. The plurality of atomizers can have a corresponding plurality of evaporators, for example also in matrix form. To produce larger amounts of steam, a plurality of addition devices or microsystem technology units can be arranged in the cigarette product.

The air supply through the air inlet opening(s) 31, 31A can be adjustable, in particular by changing the flow resistance, for example by means of adjustable air slots or a rotatable ring with a regulating opening. Furthermore, a (fine) filter can be provided on the air inlet opening(s) 31, 31A to clean the sucked in air. An ionization device for ionizing the sucked in air is also possible, which can result in better droplet absorption and better biological compatibility. Finally, a device for preheating or pretempering the sucked in air is conceivable.
The
The
Instead of the separate electrical/
A sensor, for example a pressure sensor or a pressure switch, is advantageously arranged in the
The

To avoid leakage, the
The
In an advantageous embodiment, the
The
The

The
The atomizer/
In addition to the
The
As an alternative to a
Preferably, metallic parts of the
The

In advantageous embodiments, the
Optionally, temperature control or preheating of the steam to a desired temperature, for example body temperature (37 ° C), can be provided. Since the
