An arrangement for stopping a door (4) for opening and closing a space, such as the cargo space of a vehicle, in the open position thereof, of the type comprising a fixed base part (10) suitable for being mounted below the body (3) of the vehicle, which constitutes the support structure of the door (4), a stop lever (14) mounted on the fixed base (10), pivoting between a rest position and a stop position of the door (4) in its open position, a handle (16) for actuating the pivoting of the lever (14), the handle (16) being made in the form of a separate part, which is mounted on the lever (14), pivoting about an axis (24) provided on the lever (14), in a locking position of the handle (16) on the fixed base (10), against a return spring (26), when the lever (14) is in its stop position of the door (4), characterized in that it comprises means for returning the lever (14) to its rest position and in that the return means are formed by compression return spring means (18) mounted in a circular housing (39) and bearing by one end on a stop face (41) secured to the fixed base (10) and a stop surface (40) secured to the lever (14), the pivoting of the lever (14) in its stop position causing the compression of the compression return spring means (18).

The arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that the handle (16) comprises a hook (20) able to be locked on a spout (22) of the fixed base (10), under the effect of spring means (26) inserted between the handle (16) and the lever (14), owing to a relative pivoting movement between the handle (16) and the lever (14), and in that the handle (16) and the lever (14) are secured in rotation during the pivoting between the stop and rest positions of the lever (14).
  3. The arrangement according to claim 2, characterized in that the stop lever (14) is movable by the handle (16) toward its stop position against return means (18, 18a, 18b) and from its stop position toward its rest position by these return means (18, 18a, 18b).
  4. The arrangement according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the spring means (26) of the handle (16) are formed by torsion spring means associated with the axis of rotation (24) of the handle.
  5. The arrangement according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the assembly formed by the lever (14) and the handle (16) in the rest position is located below the body of the vehicle.
