Definitions
- the invention relates to a watch crystal. It also relates to a watch case and a timepiece as such comprising such a watch crystal.
- the document CH310556 describes a state-of-the-art watch case, comprising a monobloc watch crystal. This solution requires the use of a relatively elastic material and is not compatible with more resistant materials such as sapphire.
- the document CH505414 describes a watch crystal, which comprises a first element made of a first material ("mineral glass”) and a second element made of a second material (organic glass) different from the first, more elastic than the first material, the second element comprising a skirt in its lower part, and the two elements being fixed together so that the first element is intended for an outward orientation of a watch and in that the skirt of the second element is suitable for assembling the crystal watch on a watch case.
- a watch crystal which comprises a first element made of a first material (“mineral glass”) and a second element made of a second material (organic glass) different from the first, more elastic than the first material, the second element comprising a skirt in its lower part, and the two elements being fixed together so that the first element is intended for an outward orientation of a watch and in that the skirt of the second element is suitable for assembling the crystal watch on a watch case.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an improved solution for watch glass, and in particular to achieve all or part of the objects below.
- a first object of the invention is to provide a particularly resistant watch crystal, in particular to scratches.
- a second object of the invention is to provide a watch crystal, the assembly of which on a watch case is simple, and makes it possible to achieve an appropriate seal.
- a third object of the invention is to provide a particularly aesthetic watch crystal.
- the invention is based on a watch crystal according to claim 1.
- the figure 1 shows a watch crystal 1 according to a first embodiment of the invention.
- the watch crystal comprises a first element 2, made of a first rigid material, in particular of a first transparent rigid material, preferably made of sapphire, intended for an outward orientation of a watch middle. It further comprises a second element 3 made of a second more elastic material, in particular a second more elastic transparent material, in particular a polymer material, fixed to the first element 2.
- the watch glass 1 preferably has symmetry about an axis. A of revolution.
- the first element 2 of the watch glass 1 is substantially in the form of a disc, of axis A of revolution, the upper surface of which is slightly curved, and in particular has a convex geometry.
- the second element 3 comprises a first upper part 3a in the form of a disc of diameter substantially equal to that of the disc formed by the first element 2, allowing the fixing of its upper surface over the entire lower surface 2a of the first element 2, or alternatively over only part of this surface.
- the second element 3 comprises a second part, forming a skirt 3b, being in the form of an extension or of a substantially vertical wall extending downwards from the entire periphery of the second element 3, at the level of its periphery, of substantially annular horizontal section, of axis A.
- the skirt 3b has a substantially cylindrical shape of axis A according to the first embodiment.
- the first part 3a fulfills the function of fixing the first element 2 and the skirt 3b the function of assembly with a middle part of a watch, as will be developed below.
- the figure 2 illustrates the watch glass 1, according to the first embodiment, assembled on a watch middle part 4.
- the assembly process will be more particularly illustrated with reference to the figures 3 and 4 below.
- the middle part 4 has an upwardly oriented vertical extension 4b, the substantially vertical exterior surface of which comes into contact with the interior surface of the skirt 3b of the second element 3 of the watch crystal 1.
- a bezel 5 surrounds this assembly, comprises a first lower horizontal surface 5a, which rests on a horizontal surface 4a of the middle part of the watch 4, and a second surface 5b, substantially vertical, which comes into contact with the external surface of the skirt 3b.
- the arrangement of the various components is such that the skirt 3b of the watch glass 1 is thus compressed radially against the middle part 4 by the bezel 5, guaranteeing the maintenance of the watch glass 1 on a watch case and sealing from the watch case.
- this assembly solution has the advantage of great simplicity, does not require a specific seal. It also makes it possible to achieve a very aesthetic result.
- the first element 2 is oriented towards the outside of the watch.
- the skirt 3b extends in a direction opposite to the first element 2.
- the first element 2 fulfills a first function of impact and scratch resistance and a second aesthetic function.
- the second element 3 mainly fulfills the assembly function on a watch middle part, and possibly participates in the aesthetic effect, as will be illustrated below. It must therefore be in a sufficiently rigid material to guarantee the resistance of maintaining the watch crystal and withstand the stresses after its mounting, while having a sufficient elastic property to allow the assembly of its skirt while ensuring sealing, which notably implies bending stresses.
- the first and second materials are thus necessarily different, the second being less rigid and more elastic than the first.
- the second material is advantageously made of polymer, advantageously of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a material which meets the above-mentioned constraints while having the advantage of very high optical transparency and excellent resistance to ultraviolet rays.
- the second material used could be any other amorphous polymer such as polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate ( PET), polycarbonate / polyethylene terephthalate (PC / PET), or polyurethanes (PU or PUR) ...
- the fixing of the two elements 2, 3 of the watch crystal 1 is obtained by bonding, in particular by ultraviolet bonding.
- bonding in particular by ultraviolet bonding.
- this contact surface corresponds substantially to the entire lower surface 2a of the first element 2 (and therefore the entire upper surface of the second element 3), which maximizes the holding of the first element 2 on the second element, then indirectly on a watch case, while having the advantage of a laminated glass structure, which improves the overall resistance, in particular useful in the event of an extremely violent impact which would risk breaking the first element 2.
- the two elements 2, 3 are thus fixed to each other, and superimposed in a vertical direction.
- the second element 3 could be overmolded on the first element 2, in particular the skirt 3b of the element 3 could be overmolded on the lower surface of the element 2 and / or on a side wall of the element 2 .
- the figures 3 and 4 illustrate the phases of assembling a watch crystal as illustrated on the figure 1 according to the first variant of the first embodiment of the invention on a middle part of a watch 4.
- the skirt 3b of the second element 3 of the watch crystal 1 does not have a perfectly cylindrical shape of axis A , but has a section through a vertical plane of frustoconical shape. More specifically, in the variant shown and visible on the figure 3 , where the skirt 3b occupies its natural position of rest, the inner surface 31b of the skirt 3b is substantially vertical, parallel to the axis A of the watch glass 1, while its outer surface 32b is slightly inclined outward , so that the thickness of the skirt 3b increases regularly by moving towards its lower end.
- this inclination of an angle a is slight, of the order of 3 degrees, between 0 and 10 degrees inclusive, or even between 2 and 4 degrees inclusive, relative to the vertical direction.
- the vertical extension 4b upwards of the middle part of the watch 4 has an outer surface 42b of the same slightly inclined, substantially the same angle as the angle a of orientation of the surface 32b, of orientation different complementary, that is to say that the outer surface 42b moves outwardly moving upward.
- the figure 3 represents an initial phase of a process for assembling a watch crystal 1 according to the invention on a watch middle 4.
- the watch crystal 1 has been positioned in abutment on the watch middle 4, so that the horizontal lower surface of the skirt 3b is in abutment on a horizontal surface for receiving the middle part of the watch 4, substantially at the base of the extension vertical 4b of the watch middle part 4.
- a bezel 5 is approached from above, in a vertical direction, around the outer surface of the watch glass 1. This bezel 5 is then gradually lowered to its final position represented by the figure 4 , in which the watch crystal 1 is finally mounted on the watch middle part 4.
- the lower end of the vertical inner wall 5b of the telescope 5 has a chamfer.
- the inner wall 5b can have a substantially frustoconical shape.
- This inner surface 5b descends in abutment on the outer surface of the watch crystal 1, then pushes the skirt 3b because of its frustoconical conformation and its outer surface 32b inclined outward.
- This skirt 3b is thus compressed inwards, and is slightly deformed in bending inwards thanks to its elastic property, due to the second material used and its shape.
- its outer surface 32b follows the shape of the vertical inner surface 5b of the bezel 5.
- the inner surface 31b of the skirt 3b thus becomes inclined at an angle a.
- This inclination corresponds exactly or substantially to that of the outer surface 42b of the middle part 4 of the watch, so that these two corresponding surfaces 31b, 42b are held in abutment over their entire surface by the bezel 5.
- the vertical extension 4b may possibly have an elasticity so as to guarantee the support of the surfaces 31b, 42b.
- the figure 5 illustrates a watch crystal 1 according to a second variant of the first embodiment of the invention, mounted on a watch middle part 4.
- the skirt 3b comprises a zone of least resistance 300b, which is in the form of 'A zone of smaller section positioned in the upper part of the skirt 3b.
- This area of least resistance 300b has the effect of promoting the bending of the skirt 3b during assembly, by minimizing the internal stresses in the material of the skirt, allowing it to remain more easily in the mechanical characteristics of the second material used for the second element 3.
- the figure 6 illustrates the same view as the figure 2 with a watch crystal according to a third variant embodiment of the invention.
- the first disc-shaped part 3a of the second element 3 comprises a recess 30a in its horizontal upper surface, provided for housing a decoration element 6.
- a decoration element 6 may for example consist of a precious or semi-precious stone. It can also consist of an element, display or not, coated with luminescent material. It is visible from the outside due to the transparency of the first element 2 of the watch crystal. Its positioning between the two elements 2, 3 of the watch glass, in "sandwich", allows it to be perfectly maintained and protected from external aggressions.
- a recess can also be provided on the horizontal upper face of the second element 3 so as to constitute an adhesive reservoir, in particular for the purpose of containing the excess adhesive deposited during the bonding of the elements 2 and 3.
- the recess 30a is arranged in such a way that it is not visible to the wearer, for example on the periphery of the middle part, in particular at the height of the middle part.
- the upper surface of the first part 3a of the second element 3 may include a decoration, which may consist of all or part of the elements of the following group: surface texturing, all patterns in relief, surface metallization, color surface printing, etc.
- a decoration which may consist of all or part of the elements of the following group: surface texturing, all patterns in relief, surface metallization, color surface printing, etc.
- These approaches can generate decorative patterns, patterns which can consist of any decorative design and / or any particular indication.
- These approaches can also generate functional patterns, such as for example surface textures reproducing lenses, in particular Fresnel lenses.
- the first element 2 superimposed on at least one such pattern makes it possible to protect it from external aggressions such as shocks and to guarantee its durability.
- the Figures 7 and 8 illustrate a second embodiment of the invention.
- the figure 7 shows a watch glass 1 according to this second embodiment mounted on a watch middle 4.
- the watch glass 1 differs from that of the first embodiment in that the first part 3a of the second element 3 does not extend over the entire lower surface of the first element 2. It extends from the outer end of the first element 2, over a distance representing approximately one third of the radius of the disc forming the first element 2. More generally, this part 3a can be extend over only part of the length of the lower surface 2a of the first element 2, whatever its shape.
- This length preferably represents at least one fifth of the total length of the lower surface 2a of the first element 2. This length can moreover represent at most half of the total length of the lower surface 2a of the first element 2.
- this lower surface 2a is delimited by a step arranged at the inner end of part 3a, so that the central zone of the first element 2 is lower than the external zone of the first element 2, of a thickness of the order of the first part 3a of the second element: thus, the watch glass 1 retains a substantially continuous and substantially planar, horizontal bottom surface.
- the skirt 3b retains the same characteristics as in the first embodiment.
- the first part 3a of the second element 3 forms a substantially horizontal ring.
- the invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiments.
- it is not limited to a watch glass with a circular outline, but can be adapted to any shape to correspond to any shape of watch case, for example rectangular or of the "barrel" type.
- the upper surface of the watch glass can be flat or convex.
- the lower surface of the watch glass can be flat or convex.
- Watch glass could include more than two elements. It could in particular comprise at least one decorative element 6 as proposed within the third variant of the first embodiment of the invention. It could also include an external element, for example a magnifying glass favoring the reading of a time indication or derived from the time.
- the external element is in the rigid material mentioned, in particular in sapphire.
- the invention also relates to a watch case comprising a watch crystal as described above, and to a timepiece comprising such a watch case.

As is apparent from the preceding description, the

Alternatively, other types of decoration can be obtained without necessarily making a hollow in the
Naturally, other alternative embodiments can be obtained by the simple combination of the preceding alternative embodiments.

All the variants of the first embodiment can be reproduced in this second embodiment.
Naturally, the invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiments. In particular, it is not limited to a watch glass with a circular outline, but can be adapted to any shape to correspond to any shape of watch case, for example rectangular or of the "barrel" type. The upper surface of the watch glass can be flat or convex. The lower surface of the watch glass can be flat or convex. In addition, Watch glass could include more than two elements. It could in particular comprise at least one decorative element 6 as proposed within the third variant of the first embodiment of the invention. It could also include an external element, for example a magnifying glass favoring the reading of a time indication or derived from the time. Advantageously, the external element is in the rigid material mentioned, in particular in sapphire.
Finally, the invention also relates to a watch case comprising a watch crystal as described above, and to a timepiece comprising such a watch case.
